PDA help - Recomendations, features, etc
Ok guys, I searched on here and theres not much about PDAs. And between everyone here, Im sure the info will come flowing in.
I am looking to buy my fiance a PDA as a wedding present. She starts her new job on the telemtry floor at the local hospital as an RN (registered nurse) and she has mentioned serveral times about seeing other nurses use the PDAs with medical software to look stuff up on the spot. So I think awesome!
Perfect wedding gift -> but i know nothing about these things. I want to get her a very good, easy to use setup. I am out of the loop on brands and features. I have read alot about the software and bascially I need to know what PDA is a good one now. I know I want it to have bluetooth and alot of memory, but thats it.
So Im sure you guys out there know something about these things. I am looking to spend around $400 for the unit and software. any ideas?

Dell Axim x51v
Here's what I got last Christmas, Dell Axim x51v:
I love it, and use it all the time. The WiFi is great, and it has memory slots for SD and CFII cards. My only complaint is that the Bluetooth can be a little quirky sometimes, and I've heard people have complained about Windows Mobile 5.0 though I haven't had any problems. Great for my needs, worth giving it a look.

I've been using the iPaq 2215 for a while. Here's a link to a review of this PDA: link.
I think of it as my brain since it contains information I can't live without. And yes, I know it is an older PDA but it does the job.
I am currently in the market for a PocketPC Phone and taking a close look at these: i-Mate Jamin and e-Ten M600.
Hope this helps. And best wishes for the wedding plan.

I used to have a Visor Edge - very cool and very thin but I never used the stinking thing. I had a revelation last October and got myself a PDA/phone. Now I use that thing all the time. I really think the PDA market should focus more on phones seeing as how there are so many people (that I know of) who never use theirs.

I use mine all the time
Actually the story of how it came to be in my possession is here:

I find that a PDA on my phone works best because I always have the phone with me, it automatically updates my calendar when I sync it up, and with the speaker phone option I can set up my schedule/figure things out while I'm on the phone and not have to look for a 2nd device.
Kind of a no brainer call for me.

5-6 years ago, i ditched my nokie 5900 phone. the address book was an 8 char line for the name, and a line for phone #.
then i got the kyocera 6035 palm phone... holy cow. talk about nite and day.
i still have it. have tried the treo. hate the little keypad.

sno,
if the nurses are using it for work, it might be a possibility that the hospital provides these for free or at a lower cost. a friend of mine is a partner at kaiser in oakland (home of bubb rubb), and kaiser provides these to the docs and nurses as part of their normal job.
also, the wife worked as a purchasing manager for a non-profit clinic many years ago and she said dell has a special discount for health care workers. you might want to chekc into that. but my best guess is to have your wife talk w/ her supervisor and see if they will provide it for free.
