I need something new, i've done the whole pc gaming and would like to experience online gaming via console.
any suggestions? I'll play anything from driving/racing, sports, first person shooter... but cant decide whether ps2 or xbox.

Xbox all the way. They have the best slection of online games. Plus Halo2 is coming Nov 9

And another good thing is with an Xbox you need to set up online access once and create an account once for all the games. With PS2 you set up online access but you need to create an account for each game.

Congrats! You must go to your favorite game supplier and purchase Halo. If you like shooters Halo will blow your mind. If you have a buddy that likes to game then invite him over for the co-op play..........A friend and I finished the game co-op in 8 hours on the hardest level. We can do it now in a few hours.
My fisrt online game was Mech Assault.................hours of mass distruction.

Personally...
I've never gotten into FPS's on consoles... For me, it's an interface issue. I've been playing FPS's since Doom and have gotten too acustom to the classic keyboard/mouse setup. My thumbs just don't work as fast as my wrist/fingers.
But, from the console game point of view MS has the better setup in terms of access, configuration and support.
One thing that I've noticed though is that bandwidth can sometimes be an issue if you're on "just" a DSL line (or on a busy cable node). If you're in a game with, say, 6-8 other people and there's a lot of shooting going on, stuff can get a bit dodgy. It seems that bandwidth sharing isn't quite as slick as the more common PC gaming.

Xbox all the way!
1. Xbox out performs PS2's graphics quality.
2. Xbox has a built in network inerface.
3. More sports titles to choose from.
4. You can download extra levels for your games, new guns for the FPS games, secret cars or parts for racing fans.
5. Xbox live ensures that you always have people to play against.
6. Halo 2. Nuff said.
7. you dont need to go out and buy those crappy memory cards just to save your games.
8. Ps2 cant come close to running FPS games like Xbox. The Xbox controler feels like it was made for FPS games.
9. Ps2's lighting effects struggle to match up against Xbox.
10. Xbox runs higher resolutions, better frames per second, cleaner picture, and better sound. Its just better.. Hands down.
