No icon on desktop?

Lots of time I will right click on a webpage to add the short cut to my desktop.
This way I do not have to bookmark it, and I can access it faster, then decide later if I want to keep it.

IE alway puts an icon on the desktop of either a stock IE icon, or one from the web pages own doing as seen by a Star Wars one in the pic below.

However one I saved for the new Creative Zen Micro Photo (MP3 & photo player) did not create one, only the text is there.

This is the first time I have ever seen this happen in all my years of computing.
Anyone else ever see this happen?

Just thought it was strange.

I will bet that the icon IS there, it's either black to match your desktop so you can't see it, or it's a transparent "favicon.ico".

Right click on it like you were going to change the icon and see what it shows is available. The stock icon will be highlighted, so you can see what it is.

Rob, I set the desktop also to a background, and a lighter color earlier, and no go.

Right clicked on the props for the shortcut, and it looks like it is already set to the IE one, if that red star means anything by it.

Yep, that is what the star means. What happens if you change the icon? Since it's pointed at the generic icon set, that usually means that it's unable to find the icon it's looking for.

OK, first I changed it to the Newspaper looking icon and it took.
Then I changed it to the IE one that was in the list with the red star and it took.

Strange that it did not take the first time.

Perhaps a hiccup happened

My guess would be that it had trouble finding the icon that set-up wanted to use.

Is there a way to keep XP from replacing the app specific desktop shortcut icons with the generic IE icon? TweakUI icon repair/rebuild won't.

Not that I am aware of, but then again, it's not a problem I have had to deal with. Why are your icons getting replaced in the first place? Registry corruption? Moving applications around?

Probably some of both. I haven't done much with this computer besides frequent updates of everything, try to keep it clean, a bunch of System Restores and haven't formatted since new over 18 months ago. I know Corey is big on annual reformats, but what a pain and it ain't broke.
