iPod Reliability
Thought I'd fish the collective knowledge of Yotatech for some thoughts...
I bought a 40GB, 4thGen, Monochrome, Refurbished from the Apple Store a few weeks ago. In any case, having bought refurbished Apple products before, this seemed like a no brainer.
Well, after 13 days of ownership I've now had about 5 instances of the iPod siezing up on me. It just freezes, sometimes during a song, sometimes when its turned off. It requires multiple resets before it actually becomes usable again. Sometimes I have to leave it sitting for a few hours before trying to reset it again to get it to work. When it is siezed up I can reset it but the Apple emblem doesn't disappear and I can't get it to reach disk mode either.
I'm fairly certain I'm going to return it for refund. Should I just have them exchange it instead? Is there good reason to expect an exchanged unit to work better? Or is this particular model prone to this issue? Should I get a different model? Any advice is appreciated.
I've posted this on an iPod forum, but they have been unresponsive so far. I've searched at the iPod forum to no avail as well.
Regards,
Joel

I have a 2nd generation, 3rd generation, and (4 or 5?) generation iPod. They all run pristine except for my 3rd generation (photo) having a bad battery. It would do just as yours is doing. I would send it in to apple to diagnose/fix the problem.
