Extended Laptop Wireless Range

Who has some sort of antenna for there laptop for extended range? I was looking at a couple different things. I'd like to use it in my car but I dont really want something with a magnet that sticks to the paint, since it will sratch it up. Any of you guys use anything like that?...also since I have an internal wireless adaptor I'm gonna have to get a pcmia (or whatever that slot is called) card with an antenna, is there any cards made for long ranger receiving? Thanks

When you talk about wanting to use it from the car, are you thinking of still connecting to your home network from the driveway, or are you looking to grab service as you can find it while driving around town?

If you're sitting in your driveway, then it may make more sense to approach the problem from the home side - i.e., move your access point/router closer to a wall that's near the driveway.

If you're doing the other thing.. then yeah, you'll need to shift to an external antenna - but you may not have to move to a PCMCIA adapter.

Most of the "internal" setups I've seen are actually internal PCMCIA cards, and the internal antenna is just a standard "external" antenna that's been wrapped around the LCD panel in the laptop. As such, you could disconnect that antenna and hook up a high gain external.
