Dell printer, what am I doing wrong?
I'm trying to download the printer driver for a dell 1700 laser printer. I go to Dell's site and download it. Save it, then run it .. and it says everything is fine. But the printer doesn't show up on my printer list.
I don't have a driver disk available at this time.
I'm using a USB cable to attach the printer to the laptop (if that makes any difference.
The computer recognizes the printer is attached, but needs the driver I guess for it to work.
I also went to this site, and downloaded the first two. Still nothing.

help me out guys!

Ok......
All that file does is unzips the driver to a folder... usually located at C:\dell\drivers\R##### or something like that. The R##### folder is gonna have the same name as the file you downloaded. That's the folder you want.
Ok now that we know that, click Start | Printers and Faxes | Add Printer | Next | Next | It should detect the printer (depends on how you're connected to it).... it'll try to install it automatically which won't work and will ask for a disk with the driver. That's where you click Browse and point it to the folder I mentioned above. If it's the right driver, it'll show up in the dialog box after you click OK. When it does that, you're gravy... so just OK your way out and you're ready to go.
If it doesn't work after that, I'll take it off your hands for the cost of shipping.
