It be fast this morning, and this is while uploading a 70 MB video to YouTube too.

I had to get a new Motorola 5100 Surfboard modem a few months back, the other one was starting to go out.
I insisted too that they lease me the same model.
I have read the above modem is the best one for speed with Comcast.

Comcast increased our upload again, as it was around the 3K mark before.
This test is on my laptop right now on wireless.
I will try my main PC later, as the download is generally much faster than here on the wireless.

I can not complain about Comcasts speeds, they are fantastic in my area.

Here is the test from my main PC which is hooked up via cat5 cable, not wireless.
The download is faster.
One test the upload jumped to 6K, but the down was a little less than the test below.

Maybe this freeware link was posted before, but if not you have to try TCP Optimizer whenever your ISP changes d/l speeds. It works automatically to tweak registry settings for best performance. All you'll need is the one download at the top, the rest of the tweaks below are already part of v. 2.0:

I'm only posting this for comparison next week. Comcast is upgrading modems to DOCSIS 3.0 (up to 138 Mb) on Monday. Free installation onsite, found out accidentally when signing up for the HD package.

I'll repost later, though I'm pleased with current speeds:

Bob, I got an email earlier in the week:

Normal is the six megabit package, but when I got my new modem awhile back after the other one crapped out, the guy upgraded me to the eight megabit package.

With speed tests though I often get what you get for download, around 25 megabit down.
That is the Speedboost as they call it kicking in.

I rebooted my modem a few days ago, and the download is still about the same, I bet that is because only the Speedboost shows during the tests.
I have not tried downloading a huge file yet like a game to watch how many KB per second it is, but I bet it is quite high.

Here is a test right now.

Comcast installed a Motorola SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem today gratis.

Trouble is, measured speed slowed (continued...)

The installation guy, two techs and a supervisor tweaked things for over an hour with no change.

After another long hold the supervisor said it's due to the new modem not using their former power boost d/l accelerator and is consistently d/l at that speed, a claimed improvement over the old artifically inflated number.

Then they had me test through speakeasy.net/speedtest and it showed 47Mb d/l. So now I'm wondering if they tweaked the new modem for speakeasy's test and it's all BS? I guess they're getting ready for HD computer d/l since the new modem is rated 138 Mb d/l.

Just ranting. In effect, Comcast did nothing but install a modem that's throttling d/l and preparing for future expensive options when the old modem worked best for my needs.

Bob, do you know the model number of the Surfboard?

I am on my second 5100 Surfboard which was considered to be the best one to use with them.
Fist one awhile back went bad, then they installed my current one.
Not sure if it is DOCSIS 3.0 compatible or not.

Here is another test for me both with Speed Test.net and Speakeasy.
The Seattle test here is also sponsored by Speakeasy.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 25125 kbps (3140.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5202 kbps (650.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Still very fast though.
Notice the download speed in both.
Around 25K for them.
In the old days a 56K modem with dialup netted you only 5.6 kb per second if you were lucky.
If my math is right, my cable is 4,486 times faster than my old dialup was.
I took 25125 and divided it by 5.6.

Here is from work.
Notice the download is about the same as home, but the upload is out of this world.

Corey, they gave me an SB6120:

http://business.motorola.com/ultrabr...ts-sb6120.html

Tested at speakeasy Seattle a minute ago:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 41268 kbps (5158.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4023 kbps (502.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

My last modem was an SB5100. They're DOCSIS 2.0, limited to 38 Mb d/l. Still very good, so I wouldn't worry about it until the next free speed upgrade.

I actually tried their 50 Mb service yesterday for an hour but didn't see or measure any difference, so went back to their basic service that was used in the re-test post.

Thanks Bob.
That screenshot above of my email states a download now I shall have with them at 20 megabit, bust as you can see, I have been seeing these 24k speeds for quite some time.

Strange, Seattle is way closer to me than Bellingham.
Bellingham:

Seattle:

I wish I had saved the previous Seattle test, my download was only 10K, not 21.3K like above.
But Bellingham is a lot further, and the download and upload are way higher.

Tacoma which is just ten or so miles South of me is also less than Bellingham.

Lynwood which is North os Seattle a few miles.

And back to Bellingham again:

It is smoking the others.
Must be a bad router somewhere in the Seattle path from me to them.

They also have a pint test now in beta.
To Bellingham:

To Seattle:

Again Bellingham is better although it is further away.
First ping test it set off the Windows Firewall thing, which I continued to let it block.

My Internet has been messing up bad this week, with me resetting the Motorola 5100 Surfboard modem several times.
Today it was so bad my Vonage calls were not being heard from others, but I could hear them fine.

The tech diagnosed one main issue was the 15' coax from my wall to the modem.
It had been pinched to many times getting slammed by my closet door over the years where I have it routed, so he replaced it.
The speed was better, and less packet drop.

He also replaced my modem with a better Cisco unit that is so new not many techs have installed them before.
But I am on the 12 megabit down service, although I normally get 20 megabit down.
He said for what I was paying for, the older 5100 modem was not compliant with my tier package, so he replaced it.

Here are a few test, working very good right now.

Ping was greater on the second test, but the download speed was better.

If you run the test, go to the settings on the page and choose "kilobits" for your speed measurement.
