The general problem is random reboots and screen freezes.... Heres the general computer setup for all of us:
Chaintech 7NJL6 MOBO
Ultra 256MB of ram (some of us)
AMD sempron 2800 (all but one of us, other is a Duron 1800)
All have different IDE devices and graphics cards....

At least you are not blaming Microsoft for crashing.
There is nothing you can do about a cheap motherboard. That's what 2nd rate hardware does, it crashes, for one reason or another. More often that not it's software related.
If you want to get a stable computer, cut your losses with time spent on this issue, and get an Intel chipset based motherboard with an Intel processor, because that's what Microsoft designs for, and that's what has been tested by millions before you even put it on your desk.

I agree.... AMD systems have been around long enough they've proven themselves. This chaintech board shouldn't be a 2nd rate board.... but hey who knows...
I'm hoping its a simple problem... the good thing is theres enough of us that have found each other with the same problem, that it should speed up the figuring out the problem.
Thanks guys for the help thus far!

If you do not get it figured out, or there is no cure, check into Asus.
I have been building my own PCs for years, and I will only use Asus.
Never had a problem with an Asus board.
I am not up on the AMD chips, but if it is a socket 939, Asus has one that is top rated now for build ups with the 939 CPU.

If I was building up an AMD FX55 based system, this is what I would use.

If you have your own opinion, you are welcome to voice it, but try to argue in a more mature way and try to minimize vulgarity.

Guys i like them both, im just partial to AMD, because I can usually get better deals on it, as opposed to the intels. That and this is the first time I've had a stability problem with anyone of mine, or friends AMD based systems... I do like Intel, but for 100 after lots of rebates, getting a nice case, a 400W PS, a chaintech mobo, some cheapo ram thats getting changed, and a 2800 Sempron isn't a bad deal... well wouldn't be if i didn't have these problems.
Corey, its a socket A based system. I don't really need a lot of special stuff, but at least 4 USB 2.0 ports, with the plugin for front mounted ones, dual channel ram, AGP 8X minumum, preferably at least 3 PCI if not 5PCI expansions, and is Sempron compatible. Asus make one of those that you know is a good model.... for a decent price... price is the huge driver, hence buyin this cheap barebones kit....

What kind of PSU do you have? Lots of people have problems and it's because of the PSU. You don't want a crappy brand. Many say 400W when it's really 200. Antec, Enermax, PC Power and Cooling are all good brands.
Asus is the only motherboard I run. The A8N is nice, but if you don't have a PCI Express graphics card, get the A8V, which has an AGP port.
As for Intel vs. AMD, AMD gives more for the money. I just built a PC with dual Xeon 2.4 CPU's as a server. I'm now building a personal one (games, internet, etc.) with an AMD 3500+ Winchester. Intel is best for those requiring a workhorse.

My power supply is an ultra... heres a link to it:

As far as i know its not the PS, however is there a good method to check it?
I don't have a PCI-E card, and was planning on going AGP.... Heres another question... I haven't stayed up to par with the emergining stuff, is PCI-E now faster than AGP?

Heres a timeline question... will AGP be phased out on the same timeline as 32 bit systems... This system is not a new 64 bit, so I'm thinking by the time everything gets to the point where you might need a PCI-E, you might also need the 64 bit systems... So I guess the question is, for a mid to higher end 32bit system (based on a socket A) will just an AGP port do?
Also, has anyone checked to see if ASUS boards support the semprons? I have yet to find that they do. I have found a MSI board that looks promissing.... any opinions, experience, etc?

i would just run what you have for now and wait for a 64bit os to come out that is not beta like win xp 64. right now i have a amd 64 fx-53 and a agp card and it does fine . agp 8x still hasen't been really pushed

Problem is what I have now, I can't get stable, and seems like no one else can either.. without running the computer slower than my old 800MHz Celeron 100FSB, which defeats the purpose of a new computer... man this is starting to tick me off.....
