Blow that dust (PC)

out of your PC.

I am usually pretty diligent when it comes to taking care of my PC(s) at home.
However it has been a very long time since I disconnected my PC to take it outside to blow the dust out.

I could tell it was dusty, as I have a window on the side of it with a green light inside.

Also when I reach behind my mouse on the keyboard pull out tray, there was heat coming up, more than normal

Yesternight as I was watching the Serenity DVD out in the living room, when it was time for bed I came in to check the new posts on the forum.
My screen was all blue and hairy looking, and it was moving

Right away I thought video problem, to much heat.

Took apart the PC this morning (so many frickin' wires to disconnect on mine) and took it to the front porch to blow it out.
Both the intake fan and exhaust fan had a good 1/8" of dust buildup on the outside of the vents.
And the interior was pretty bad too.
Dust everywhere!

It has been hooked back up now for several hours, and there is no heat buildup behind the keyboard tray.

Yeah, I procrastinated on getting this done.
I was lucky I did not loose the video card or another component.

So clean out your PCs once in awhile, they will run a lot better.

I have yet to reinstall my Asus mamaboard software that tells me the MB temp, case temp, and CPU temp.
Wish I had installed it after I formatted a month or so back.
That would have told me it was getting hot as it has alarms that will go off.

(all blue and hairy looking, and it was moving) sounds like either papa smurf or the little old lady with the blue hair down the street from me (she's got more hair on her arms than a gorilla). Get that software loaded up "slacker".

Do this outside or you will have to clean up your house and not just your computer. You'll be amazed on how much dust lives in these things. I do mine every six months. Cost me too much to have something "fry" because of heat.

I'd buy one of those air-cans too. I've used my air compressor on the inside, and I snapped a fin in one of my CPU fans!!!! Annoying. Keep that pressure down!
