ATI vid card users
New Cat drivers came out, 5.3.
http://www.ati.com/
If you are going to install the bigger Control Center package, make sure you have the Microsoft .net framework installed first, or your Control Center will not function.
This new driver set comes with an overclocker.

I will be putting mine on Saturday morning.

Sounds good Bob.
I am running 5.1 now.
I had downloaded 5.2 last month, but did not put them on.
I had read over on DSL Reports gaming forum that there were some bugs with some users.
ATI is pretty good about releasing new drivers every 6 weeks it seems.
Make sure you remove the old ones first, or it will fubar up your machine.

Buggah. I followed their instructions exactly as shown in the release notes, but the overclocking feature called Overdrive isn't included in 5.3. The notes talk about a new v.4 Overdrive, but I can't find it on their site. At least the upgrade installed smoothly enough. I haven't tested 3D benchmarks because the trial period for the test program expired.

Bob, which install did you go for?
The big or small package?
That OC might only be available in the bigger package, not sure.
I read on DSL this morning that some guy's kid's always update to the new ATI, and it is working great for them in Half Life 2, so it looks like I will be putting these on since I play that game online.

I do not know if these are the same as the drivers on the ATI site, but I
Use the drivers in the link below.
Omega Drivers
Also I use ATI Tool to overclock the video. Found here
ATI Tool
Both have worked for me withno problems. Please keep in mind I use this
on my laptop which has the Ati 9700 video.

Corey, the big package. I just reinstalled using the Custom instead of Express install, still didn't show in the Advanced View menu. Maybe it's only in the smaller package, but it looks like I need the bigger install for the 9800 card.
Ray, thanks for the tool.

I'm probably a little retarded on this subject but I downloaded the Big package and reviewed all the 3-D settings and I didn't find anything that mentioned a version 4 overdrive. I'm running the 9800 pro - on a ASUS A7N8X deluxe motherboard if that makes a difference. Just how does one find this feature and go about overclocking the card - or do I overclock in the Bios? Any light on this subject would be appreciated

Maybe cards started melting. After playing with it awhile, I really like that it automatically sizes correctly when changing resolutions and refresh rates. The last version I used required tweaking, and here I thought it was the monitor's fault. Nice improvement and worth the download just for that feature.

I installed the big package this morning.
I do not see the Overdrive either when using the advanced view.
I think I like the smaller driver package better, as it is much easier to navigate the options.
I had to actually click on Help to find that I must enter the Advanced menu to find my TV out ops.
It still was not there, and I had to use the Wizard to let the CP detect and add my TV set to it.
Once I did that, TV out works now, and I can view my recorded Stargate Atlantis I recorded last night.
Using Clone Mode for TV out
The CP in the smaller package I think it much easier to nav around, but there are a lot more options in the bigger package for setting stuff for gaming.
I may use the big install next upgrade now that I got around the TV out not working at first.
I do not see the Overdrive either when using the advanced view.
OVERDRIVE™
OVERDRIVE™ maximizes the performance of the visual processing unit (VPU) on your graphics card by dynamically and safely increasing its clock speed to its optimal level. This provides the ability to greatly improve the performance of your VPU, especially if you are using a custom cooling solution.
An on-chip thermal sensor constantly monitors the temperature of the VPU allowing the maximum clock speed to be maintained while avoiding overheating. If the VPU gets too hot, OVERDRIVE™ will automatically decrease the clock speed until a safe temperature is reached. OVERDRIVE™ will never reduce the graphics processor speed below the default clock speed.
What would you like to do?
Enable OVERDRIVE™
Click View button to change to Advanced View.
Click OVERDRIVE™ .
Click Enable ATI OVERDRIVE™ .
Apply your settings
Click Apply to save your changes and leave the CATALYST™ Control Center open.
Click Done to save your changes and exit the CATALYST™ Control Center.
Discard your settings
Click Discard to ignore any unsaved changes and restore the settings that existed when the CATALYST™ Control Center was opened or the last time Apply was used. Discard does not close the CATALYST™ Control Center.
Clicking Discard applies to all features of an aspect, not just the feature in the current view.

Pssssssst
Fooled around with it more.
Extended my desktop to the TV, but that is kind of pointless since the TV is in the other room.
When you move your mouse or open windows to the right side of your main monitor, you can move mouse or open items to the TV or other monitor if you have one in the same room.
Kind of cool if you want to have a browser open on one screen, and TV or a vid playing on the other screen.
Here is a snapshot of the Wizard to config this.

You must be in normal mode and not advanced mode in the ATI CP to access the Wiz.
The 2nd option is what I run (clone mode) so I can go out to the living room and watch my TV out for shows I record via my TV/FM tuner card.
No more VCR ever for me, this is so much better and clearer than tape.
The 3rd option is very rad (horizontal stretch mode) and if I had two LCD monitors, I would run this.
With two monitors side by side, you would have an ultra wide desktop.
This would be very cool for gaming.
It would not look so great with two CRTs, as there is to much gap between the screens from all the plastic surrounding the glass on the screens.
Gosh, two LCDs mounted to my wall would be rad
Now that I am more use to this new CP with the bigger package of drivers, I think I will keep it.

I have seen that Myth TV site before, but ya gotta have Linux to run the software.
I pretty much can do anything with my current TV/FM card such as:
"You may pause, fast-forward and rewind live Television"
stated on his website.
One day I am going to build one of those small form factor PCs for the living room complete with a wireless Logitech mouse & keyboard, same TV card as my current PC.
This way I will not have to get up to come to my main PC to switch shows being watched after one recording is done being viewed.
I just got a free Compaq PC today I can probably do this with too.
It is one of those really small mini towers.
I have to find out what CPU is in it though to see if it is worth upgrading with a TV card first though, and see if there is room to add an AGP video card to get TV out.
