ATI HDMI 5.1 issues

OK guys need some help here as I have tried everything to get this thing to work.

THis problem showed up when trying to play FarCry 2 on my HTPC box.

After some searching I found this: http://75.126.99.220/showthread.php?p=1034733819.

However changing ...\Far Cry 2\Data_Win32\SoundBinary\DARE.INI from DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=TRUE to DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=FALSE did not seem to do the trick. Although when the game loads it seems the preview stuff that comes on is in 5.1 surround just not the game itself.

I have got a Gigabyte Radeon HD4670 video card in which I have hooked up to an RCA RT2906 Receiver through HDMI.

I have sound which means I got the correct HDMI cable (at least I think it does) however, I cannot get this thing to send a true 5.1 Bitstream. When configuring the speakers of the HDMI audio device it ony shows 2 speakers yet is does show HTPC compatibility and Dolby Digital, DTS support.

I have tried using the Realtek HDMI Audio drivers and codecs as well as the AMD drivers that come with Catalyst. All still show the two speaker format and no way to configure 5.1 speakers. Only 2 channel and whether or not my speakers are full range or not, the surround speakers on that section is grey'd out and cannot select. Which is understandable.

I can supply screen shots if need be. Thanks guys.

And no I do not want to use the SPDIF of an available Audigy 2 sound card. Which is not currently installed into comp, and the onboard sound is also disabled in BIOS.

On a side note is there any test software to see if maybe the two channel which is being sent to the receiver is getting decoded correctly in it's current setup? WMP does not seem to test right.

ok, after setting WMP to 5.1 and playing a known 6 channel video it seems as though the audio is working as it should through the receiver. The receiver is even seeing Dolby Digital as the input format and it sounds correct on the speakers.

When back on the desktop without the movie playing the receiver changes to Dolby D+ Movie, Dolby D+ Emulation, Dolby D+ Music options. So it looks as though the Audio chip on the vid card is in fact sending multichannel to the receiver.

So now just not understanding why the playback device is only showing 2 channel as max channels. lol. But I guess it's right?

I now the radeon 4xxx cards don't support trueHD audio but they still support DD/DTS I believe.

Gonna try this RM 3DSound 2.3 and see what Happens. Apparently Realtek Audio chips have had problems in the past with EAX positional audio when games use D3D.

ok back again. lol. Well more researching shows that windows 7 and vista apparently removed the ability to use hardware 3d sound rendering making EAX basically obsolete. Creative has a way around this with Alchemy but gonna try out 3D SoundBack from Realtek. Which Seems to be basically the same thing.

I am this close || to putting in Windows XP x64 into this computer or the Computer through the windows. Hahaha.
