Another Reason for me to hate Apple

I'm SO tired of Itunes and quicktime. I have stopped upgrading them all together. EVERY time I upgrade, it crashes my computer and I have to get all sorts of drivers, reinstall things in JUST the right order, etc. I'm happy with my ipod right now, but when that thing dies, I'm going to move on to some other music device.
Edit: Since I haven't upgraded, itunes works fine and is a decent music player. It's all the features, pop ups, etc that piss me off.

Crashing?
Your computer crashes when you use iTunes or when you uprgrade iTunes? Are you running a pc or a mac? Maybe I'm wrong but I bet your running pc. I guess I have had a totally different experience. I run a mac. Used to be hardcore pc. Its no insult to pcs, this thing just runs better and is easier to use, for me. Somethings it wont do, (good luck finding a CAD program), but c'mon what other software out there can do as much as itunes and remains completely free?

Yeah, I run a PC. Switching a music player is quite a bit cheaper than a computer. I'll use the version of itunes that I have right now till my ipod dies, then I'm going to get away from apple. They provide a good product and have one hell of a marketing department, but itunes sucks on a pc (i know it rocks on a mac) and since i do work at home sometimes, which requires PC applications, i can't make a switch to a mac. Especially when you factor in what it'd cost for me to get a new computer.

... and with bootcamp, windows runs fine on a mac! I have a macbook pro, and it runs all my work apps fine in windows (real estate programs just dont exist on the mac) BTW when I say it runs windows, it is not like virtual pc, the thing actually runs windows natively at full speed

i don't hate i-tunes or quicktime, but i hate the fact that you are forced to use itunes if you have an ipod.

I am not in favor of sweatshops, but you'd be surprised if you find out how many products we use, wear and eat are produced with low wage, exploited workers.
Sadly, It seems to be an unstoppable phenomena of the present economy.

90% of the time, my iPod nano works great.
The other 10% it is the most frustrating thing ever.
Same with iTunes. Apple says "oh our stuff never crashes, you don't need a reset button" or whatever, but when the iPod won't respond to the computer (and you can't force it because that would be unApple-like) I just want to throw the thing.

ipod reset
hey tc you might have already known this but the ipod does have a reset. It depends upon the geeration and model but if you hold either play and menu at the same time or menu and the center button, or the center button and play for five or so seconds, it will reset it. And that is bs from apple, the ipod definetely crashes. And I agree with the above, you should be able to use something other than itunes if you want. Just cuz they say its best doesn't mean its best for everyone. It would be cool if you could use it with that napster subscription service or yahoo music download.
oly- very true macs come with a hefty price tag

He is a smart man... the co you used to work for just might end up paying him some big $$ to take it down if people start catching wind of it...
I heard Savannah College of art and Design (my college) paid someone almost $300,000 to take a website down that described a bombing that went on at one of the school's buildings. Crime is a BIG problem in Savannah so that might have something to do with it. I'd start promoting the crap out of the website and go from there...

I have no love lost for Itunes. It works and thats all I'll say about it. If I could get an ipod and not be tied to itunes I probably would own one or it would be high on the list. The trouble is that half the user experience is the software you use for music and frankly being tied to Itunes(alone), the drm bs that comes with it, and the fact that the itunes user interface is less than stellar has made driven the ipod off my list altogether.
Btw my fiancee owns one so I do know about them.
