My Garmin V+ does that, I think most of them do, just have to set up the screen to display it.

GPS Speedo

Hi all,

If one needed to use the Etrex as a speedo, would it work in a Jeep with a soft top? Can you get an external antenna for it?

I'd like to use a GPS as speedo, but don't know much about it....

Thanks for any help.

'best, Lou

I have an e-trex and it work fine in my 4-runner. Shows speed, distance, direction, and a bunch more. I thing they even have a holder for your car.

If there is an REI in your area, you may be able to rent a GPS from them and try before you buy.

It works through glass. I have the dashboard mount for it. With a soft top it should work even if it isn't on the dashboard.

Hi all,
Been using the Etrex as a speedo, etc. Amazing how good it works. Tested it in the enclosed cab of our Tacoma. If kept near the windshield, it worked fine. The speedo has a lag, but it's very short and is no problem unless you're drag racing (grin). A GPS with an external antenna would be easier to use as at could be mounted anywhere in the cab, but the Etrex works.

'best, Lou
