Old Cobra 29 side mount mic and 23 channels
I tried to get my CB to show some life yesterday through the simple process of putting the red wire on the + of the battery and the red/black wire on the - terminal. Nothing.... No light, no click no nothing. Does this thing have to be grounded via the antenna and cable or does this sound like a busted CB? The guy I bought it from (Ebay) has a 7 day warrenty that it'll work but when I contacted him his response was "if you broke it I can sell you a replacement pretty cheap." nice warrenty.
Any help would be appreciated since the dude down at the local (and only) CB shop refused to diagnose it since it's so old, according to him.
Thanks.

1) swap the mic out (old 28/29's will not turn on with a blown or no mic)
2) check the in line fuse (i've blown many)
3) check your SWR and antenna coax for fraying or kinks and mashed parts (if the fuse was blown this or the mic could be the cause)
The CB is old, last time Cobra made a side mic 29 (not designated "Classic" and sold at wal-mart) was the early 80's and 20 channels is also early 80's (as long as you've got 9,12,19,and 20 you dont need the rest)

Thanks for the reply. I found a place today to take it and it turns out it's fried. I could have spent 20$ to get it back up and running but the technician told me it probably won't make it much longer anyway. I'll rat hole some money and just buy a new one. I really need to be able to trust this thing once I get off road.
