Hey guys, I am going to be traveling to Australia, New Zealand this winter and have been thinking of getting a GPS for the trip to help me and the wife get around easier.
First ? is which one should I get I have been looking at the Garmin 60CSx but only cause it has been thrown in my face by advertisement any other suggestions that may be a little cheaper?
Second, obviously I need to buy the maps for those areas but I see them listed for like $300 plus for each country is there any possible way to get them cheaper?
Thanks and I am asumming by the poll that Garmin is the way to go.

Are you going offroading or hiking there? If not you might not even need a GPS. A good travel guide (lonely planet) and a good map would be just fine. And the cost would be alot cheaper. I use to take my handheld with me on international travel and to be honest I didn't really refer to it much. I would have it on to track my travel (in case i needed to backtrack.) But If your intending to drive and want an ACTIVE moving map then that garmin 60csx would work great, make sure the person that isn't driving knows how to use it, (if not it would defeat the perpose) it's hard to drive and try to focus on new roads and area's.
Getting software and maps can get pricey real quick. Ask around and see if somebody has it and will copy it for you. Or you could get a paper (gps cordinated map of the area) and plot your own route then enter it in your gps via pc/usb. http://www.travelbygps.com/ try internet sites for reasearch. Thats just my .02 cents on. hope it helps out in your decision.
