laptop mount (updated with install pics)

Not being able to fab anything custom, has anyone found a strong laptop mount that doesn't infringe on passenger comfort and adjusts easily?

I don't know how stable it is ... but there is a guy selling them on Ebay for around $40. I just can't justify spending $200+ on a stand.

One guy built this or had it built here on yotatech, and someone now sells it on ebay. Not a bad price and says that it fits things perfectly.

Put together this stand from a bunch of RAM parts and the wood shelf I created for cabinet I kept in my previous vehicle. The long arm is too long so I'm going to cut it and re-thread it about four inches shorter. I was worried that it wouldn't be tall enough to clear the shifter but it is too tall and I do not get the range of motion I would like while keeping it somewhat below the dash. Now using my Delorme GPS is so much easier.

The only part that remains when the stand is not needed.

A good side profile to see the adjustability of the ball sockets. It can swing for driver viewing or into the lap of the passenger for easy use.

Laptop a humming away with the GPS pinpointing my parking spot of preference.

I didn't think that with three ball and socket joints it would be rigid enough to work but there is very little vibration transferred. I definitely recommend RAM components to anyone needing to mount electronics.

you can triangulate that setup by setting 2 other "arms" that bolts to the front 2 bolts of the passenger seat.

the arms can be anything. go wild on that.

spend an hour at home depot or something.

3 arms will make a very strong mount, even though the 2 can be skinny...

do a search for Jotto Desk. You can find installed pics discoweb.org, among others.

very stable, if not a bit pricey.

nermalgod,
How did you use to mount that ram ball joint, self-tapping screws or did you drill through the floor and attach with nuts and bolts? Thanks.

Nuts and bolts through the base. It was a pain to do as it was above the catalytic converter and behind the transfer case. Look before you drill. I don't think self tapping screws would hold the base securely enough.
