GPS Mounts

I just got my Garmin 60cs. Took me 10 minutes to figure out where the power button was. Works great.

Now I need to figure on a mount. The only mount that I think I like is Corey's mount (cupholder). I really dont want a windshield mount.

Guys / Gals Which mounts do you prefer? Show us your mounts!!

Anything else I should I get other than another power cord (for the truck).

You have two great choices.
As you mentioned my cupholder one, and also the one that can go behind your radio dash.

The iPod now resides in the upper mount.
Will be relocated to the glovebox when I get my new headunit.
The screen on the headunit will display all the controls of the iPod.

If you don't mount it in the windshield, you might consider getting an external antenna to make sure you get the best possible signal to the unit. I like the look of the "next-to-the-glove-box" mounts personally.

Congrats on the new GPS btw, hope my advice was useful...

Here's a cheap variation of the cupholder mount (don't laugh too hard). It works in the 4G with the cupholder in the console, it didn't work in the 3G with the pull-out cupholders over the radio (3" was too big to fit the cupholder).

Get a piece of 3" PVC pipe in whatever length you want and a drain endcap/grate with a 3" inlet. I forgot what the part #'s are at Home Depot, but you can find them in the plumbing/gardening sections. The 3" pipe fits in the cupholder loosely (if you want a tighter fit, wrap with electrical tape or duct tape) and the grate fits on the other end (for the GPS or whatever unit to sit on). Attach some velcro to the top of the grate and the bottom of the unit, and that's pretty much it.

I spray painted mine black (it was originally white) so it didn't look so much like drain pipe juryrigged together, but you can leave it white or paint to match your interior.

Not as sophisticated as some of the store-bought mounts, but it is cheap and quick.

Aloha,

Merlin

I have mine mounted on the dash so I can always maintain a signal. When wheeling, your rig points this way and that way, and sometimes you may loose the signal.

I think the cupholder mount is the way to go, but on the other hand I dont want to keep my eyes off the road to look down at the cupholder.

Looking at the Garmin website I saw a "beanbag" mount. Sounds interesting....

Actually, if your GPS talks, the cupholder mount isn't too bad, because once you set your destination, it pretty much talks you there. You can adjust the angle of it so you can pretty much glance down like you were adjusting your radio and see everything you need to.

A few years ago, the beanbag mount was popular, but people's main concerns were over what would happen in the event of an accident/rollover - they weren't sure it would stay put and not become a projectile at head level. The GPS isn't particularly heavy, but I'm not sure I'd want it flying at my face.

Just my .02 -
