i've got one and im planning to install this week, but does anyone evern use them anymore??

 

alright got me a cb the other day and was wondering how many people still use them??

 

I've had mine disconnected for awhile, but when I did have it wired up, I used it all the time. It's good for getting traffic reports from truckers who are passing through the area, and just for some friendly conversation to pass the time. I can usually get someone on the radio at all times.

 

yeah theyre great, but mine got severely shorted out a year ago.. what are the chances of this... the antenna was struck by lightning and shorted out the cb, the antenna, the stereo. nothing else was damaged. i figure it must have been a divine intervention, that could have fried my whole electrical system. im just lookin for a good place in vegas to tune my new one.. sitting in the garage along with a linear i plan on using with it. anyone got ne ideas where to get em tuned IN VEGAS? not many truck stops out here, you get those out near state line i believe, and im not about to drive for an hour just to ask a question.

 

It is the preferred way to communicate while on runs.
It transmits further than those FSR radios too.

Plus I use mine on the commute going home from work.
It is turned down low so I can listen for traffic snarls.

 

a CB would probably be great for the 215 freeway out here. it looks fine and traffic flows smoothly until you get near the strip/15 freeway to LA, and the airport. one minuite ur doin fine, the next minute your on ur brakes hoping to stop before hitting the car in front of you.

 

That mic seems to be far and away... is it a hassle to get to?

 

That is an old pic, I have not updated them.
The mic bracket is moved to the other side of the radio there, but when I am actually using it, I can store the mic and talk with it in my old iPod holder.
Since I have a new head unit now, the iPod is tucked away in the glovebox.
The CB mic fits perfectly in the iPod holder, not to be confused with the other iPod holder below in the cup holder.

Yeah I like the mount pic....looks like the same radio I have...and yes it helps to have when you are doing solo road trips.....I have mine mounted near my shifter, but I may relocate it now that I have seen this picture I like the look on the dashboard.

 

I use mine everyday on the commute to / from work. It's not as popular as it once was, but there are still alot of people who use them.

 

Gator, do you hit your hand on the mic when using the e-brake?

 

I've only had to use the e-brake once since the install, and I don't remember it being an issue. It doesn't show in the picture, but there is some room there for clearance. I remember checking that when I was trying to decide where to install the mic mount. I have it as far down as I could possibly get it. I guess it depends on the size of your hands and how often you use the e-brake. I have rather large hands, but hardly ever need the e-brake.

 

Used to have a CB in my old truck... not many "civillians" on it like in the 70's but truckers are on it all the time... really useful for avoiding traffic and getting reports on "bear" [cop] activity... speed traps, DUI inspections etc.,...
can also help when you are lost in town... folks might not know where a particular place is but they can usually tell you how to get to a cross street or rough location of an address...

 

I use my e-brake everys single time I stop. My hands aren't large, but they are big.

Well I live in an area big in logging and most everybody has a CB. I can at any time find at least 5-6 people to talk to. We even have a restaurant that you can order over a CB and then pick it up. My suggestion- Don't skimp on the antenna. I find I am much happier with a "High-Quality" Antenna than my previous $9 job. Don't really have a pic right now, but the radio is a uniden PRO520XL, mounted above the radio.

Wait a minute....I have a Radio Shack 102" whip on mine. What's wrong w/ a Radio Shack antennae?

 

Mine is a FireStik FS-4W, with a SS "3-Way" Mount, bolted to the front left corner of the bed.

 

I use mine every day. Live in a big logging area where everybody with a pickup has one. We even have a restaurant that accepts orders via CB.
