Camary05 GPS function

GPS function disabled when moving

I cannot select a destination when moving. I know that this is a "safety" feature but when I have a passenger I would expect that the the system should be operable by the passenger.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue?

same problem on our sienna, guess they don't want you having accidents,

kind of a pain in the ass to have to pull over on the freeway.

we have a dvd in the dash and in back , when you release the parking brake
the in dash dvd player goes off , i wish i could bypass it.
probably an easy fix just haven't looked yet.

I understand that Toyota wants to avoid the legal liability of someone paying attention to the GPS rather than driving then blaming Toyota rather than take responsibility themselves... but there are many other features/functions that can be operated with the car in motion.

My guess is that if you could figure out how the GPS senses that the car is in motion and then defeat that signal/sensor input to the GPS, you could solve this problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

If its anything like the aftermarket dvd players there is just a wire hooked either to your parking brake or the transmission. All you have to do is ground that wire and it should work.

Those Camry NAV take-offs use both a regular GPS antenna/sensor, as well as a hard-wired connection to a speed sensor wire behind the instrument panel. I can't think of any way that one could get around this safety feature. If you were to disconnect the speed sensor wire temporarily, the NAV would probably shut down. Same for the GPS antenna wire.

I am still considering this mod...
