At first I thought about going with an aftermarket head unit but I couldn't find anybody that makes a dash kit for my 4runner yet. I also don't know if anybody makes a wiring harness yet either because of the JBL amps.

So for now I think I want to go with XM. I absolutely don't want to go FM Modulation unless I have to.

The PIE and BlitzSafe adapters are supposed to work with any 2003 Toyota models w/o the navigation system but it says to use the 12 pin port for the optional 6-disc cd changer. What if my head unit IS a 6-disc changer? Will you still have the port? (I plan on calling PIE or BlitzSafe but wondered if anyone else had tried this)

Any recommendations on PIE v/s BlitzSafe?

Any recommendations on Delphi SkyFi/Roady or XM Commander?

 

I'd be interested in hearing what people have to say about this as well!

I'm thinking of going XM , but NOT FM Modulation... I have read quite a few threads, I am interested to find out what you decide.

 

I, too, am waiting for a more permanent solution once Scosche or someone has the adapter to put in a new head unit. For now I've got a Raody. I'm using a tape adapter and it sounds a lot better than the RF modulator in the wife's Sequoia -- but I'd rather direct connect if the Blitzsafe worked -- let us know.

Interesting that you say the tape adapter sounds better. I got the impression the FM modulator would sound better - but still not as good as direct connect. You are out of luck anyway if you have the 6-disc in-dash changer. The direct connect modules are supposed to plug in at the connection for an EXTERNAL changer. So I'm pretty sure that won't exist if you have the in-dash changer.

I talked to a guy a Crutchfield and was told they would have a DIN adapter at the end of the month and the people at http://americaninternational.net/ told me the same thing. Bad news is they don't expect to have a wiring converter anytime soon to go with the JBL amps.

So to make a long story short, I think I'll just save up to buy a head unit and wait for the adapter.

 

One more thing...
Does the security system work through the factory head unit in the '03s?

If so I'm SOL.

 

Scosche have a nice looking single DIN head unit adaptor if that is what you meant. The lower space is a little cubby that canl be upgraded down the road to a little CD holder (kinda slide out draw dealy)
