wires through firewall

Just a quick thread, Im getting the painless 7 circuit fuse box tomorrow in the mail and installing it on the firewall (engine side). How do you guys put wires through the factory grommet? Just the bare wire, or do you put the wires in some of that split loom stuff to protect them?

if there is already a rubber grommet, you just put your new wires through the grommet... don't let any bare wire pass through any hole in the firewall without a grommet (and by bare wire, i hope you are referring to no extra sheathing other than the regular insulation AND NOT actually bare wire as in stripped and exposed)

I mean going through the actual grommet, and I when i say bare, as in nothing other than the wire insulation. I think I will use the split loom once on the engine side though, makes it look neater with zip ties and all. Thanks

Be sure to seal up any gaps, my extra wires through the firewall gromet were the cause of my leak that soaked my floorboards.

I have drilled holes, passed the wires through, sealed it with Silicone before. Not the best way but was watertight and very secure when dry.
