Mb Quart competition series is what I run in my Chevy p/u. I've had them in there since 1996 and very crisp very very clean. You need a good solid amp. I have a 400 watt Kenwood pushing all my mids and highs and a sepearte amp dedicated just to the 1 JLA 10 inch sub.

Spend the money for quality and you won't replace them for years.

Focal from what I hear are very good.

Since I just had a new headunit put in, I too am at a quest for better sounding speakers.

However I have 8 speakers, but will be going with only 2.
I have 8" in the doors, the 3" or so in the dash, 4" I think way in the back, and 2 newfangled something in the ceiling.

I am a firm believer one only needs to have a nice set of 6.5" components in the doors with the tweeters at the top part of the door.

I ran 6.5" Infinity reference components in my '91 4Runner along with a 15" JL W6 in the rear, and believe me, that is all the sound you need.

I will just run the built in power from the headunit to power the new door speakers, then run my old RF 500a2 into dual 10" subs in the back.

But for now I am only looking at getting a nice set of door speakers and have the rest disconnected.
Cartoys now carries the Focal line, so I will be looking at them.

WOW 8" in the doors.

How are you liking the FJ?

Look at Carboys....then buy from woofersetc.com! Carboys are rip off artists! Woofersetc.com will have a much better price on the Focals, and they have been very reliable in my experience.

Love the FJ, best rig I have ever owned in my life.
More power than I would ever need too.

I will probably still go with Cartoys, as I get 10% off of anything they have there.
Plus it will get a little pricey, they will have to build custom plates to mount the 6.5" in the 8" openings there.

The stock speakers in the FJ are crap cheap paper cones, and small puny magnets.

There is a difference in loud without distortion and clear, accurate, sound reproduction.
