When buying a HU, speakers, amp, the most important spec is the watts RMS. Max watts doesn't really mean much. RMS is the continuous amount of power it outputs or can handle. Most decent HU now are around 22 watts RMS, which is fine for just running some regular speakers off of. But if you get component speakers or a subwoofer, you are going to need an amp.
