i did 13 sheets of HTM (2 layers in cargo area, 2 layers on each door)...it made an incredible difference.

the only problem was, that the HTM didnt stick too well on the vertical surfaces for me. I was using a roller and 3M spray and a heat gun and after a few weeks (summer) it came off inside the doors. Dunno if it's cuz my truck's black and it really heated it up or what.

I'm ordering the Vibration Damping Compound from McMaster car for christmas. it's liquid form, and i'll layer it on the metal parts of the doors to stiffen for vibration. Here's a pic of my cargo area once it had 2 layers on it, before i put the panel back on:

My trucks black, but I used peal-n-seal and it sticks great. Plus it's just as sound deadening as that stuff at about 1/4 the cost.

I second that, no pun intended. Hey did you visit the website, it's pretty dang cool. hey 2nd skin, you might want to edit you post and fix the link though, you got an "op" at the end instead of an "io" so it doesn't work.

this is what happened to me! i put 2 layers of HTM on the inner part and outter part of all my doors, and it peeled a bit (even with copious amounts of 3M Super 90 spray) and the windows started dragging on it. I'm ordering the liquid/putty vibration damping material for christmas...apply it to all the doors and floor.

But I'll try the 8# carpet padding too (since you're right, a combo of both types of deadening is the best) on my floor. yay! thanks for the suggestions.

the problem with high temp mastic is the adhesive is a seperate film that is pressed on to the mastic. This film is usually a 3 or 4 mil thick double sided 3M tape.
constraint layer dampers (foil with butyl or modified asphalt) use the butyl as the adhesive. there is not extra film laminated to the textile. the butyl or asphalt is typicly between 30 and 50 mils thick which makes for a better bond strength

Anyone have a functional link to McMaster?

The one posted before gets me to a place to register new e-mail addresses.
