Problems with The P.I.E aux-toy in 2000 4r

Well I got an xm radio a while back from someone on yt, and it works great through the fm modulator method. I decided to get one of those P.I.E. auxiliary inputs for the factory changer connector. Well it doesn't work, the head unit does not recognize the 'changer' is connected. I thought maybe it was a bad unit, so I called the company up (discountcarstereo.com) and they immediately sent me another unit to see if that would fix the problem. Still doesnt work with a different unit and harness. What else could be wrong? Do I need to press certain buttons on the radio to program it to accept a changer? Nothing happens when I press the cd button twice, and nothing appears on the display saying anything about other disks. ANY help would be great, because I need to call the company up and tell them if I want a refund. Thanks!

Thats what I am doing, they are sending me the cable for the USA Spec one that was accidentally sent to me. Really good company to cooperate this much with me, and try to solve this.

Thats the one I had trouble with the USA Spec one. I did the FM modulator and connected a Belkin power cord to it so that I could play my ipod though the factory stereo.

Same problem here- I tried to install the USA Spec ipod adapter to a 1999 Toyota OEM head unit. The adapter charges the ipod (like it should) but the head unit won't switch to the CD Changer controls. (Pushed the 'CD' button as well as every other button on the unit).

Still considering my options... Has anyone figured out how to get the head unit to recognize the adapter? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did email them, no reply yet. Everyone I talk to at stores says either press cd twice, or use the number buttons to switch disks, I can tell the headunit doesnt accept the adapter cause the little disk arrows dont show up on the screen

There've got an 800 number as well.

I would suspect that if they sell the cable for the head unit you have, then they may have the answer to getting it to work.

Ok, so I called them, and they talked me through the 'troubleshooting' process. disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, did that. Then they said go get another adapter, did that. It must be my headunit, they said that it is compatible with my AD6803 toyota headunit. Does anyone have a working AD6803 with an actual cd changer? If you by any chance have your dash apart, hahaha, can you measure the volts on all the cd changer port (back of headunit) pins? Thanks! Im gonna talk to OEMVALUE and see if I can get a replacement headunit.

I will be interested to see how the PIE works for you- I have a replacement head unit on the way, and will try the USA SPEC one more time before it goes back. I don't have much hope since Crutchfield's changed their website since I ordered, and it now says that the USA SPEC is not compatible with my car.

Question regarding P.I.E.'s troubleshooting advice- Anyone know if it makes a difference if you unplug the battery or just unplug the head unit to reset everything?

Thanks- Scubaduck

Hey Dibble9012,

Did you end up getting this set up to work? I have an '05 Corolla and I've read a bunch of reviews of people with my same car and head unit using the USA Spec interface and getting great results. I, however, am seeing the same problem that you described above. I can't get the reciever to recognize that there is something plugged into the CD changer input. Have you gotten anywhere?

Thanks in advance...

Hello,

have a 2000 4runner and had the exact same problems. Hooked up PIE Toy-Aux unit on back of factory radio so I could play XM radio using CD changer port. It would not work. After playing with it for endless amount of time, it finally recognized the unit but only if I pressed the FM1/2 button once and then quickly pressed the CD button two times. DOn't know why but it worked great until I tried using it at night when, again, it wouldn't recognize the XM radio or switch over. Turns out that if I turned my parking/headlights, it would prevent the switchover even pressing the same sequence of buttons I had used earlier!

After numerous phone calls to PIE tech support (they were really patient and had some good advice) and attempting to reset the unit a couple times...nothing worked. Well, obviously I wanted to use the XM at night, so although pressing a few buttons was no big deal, not being able to use it at night was a big problem.

Final phone call to PIE...of course never heard of that problem occurring before...possibly a grounding problem..anyway they suggested swapping the adapter Toy-Aux out for a Toy/PC-Son part which is essentially a Toy03-Aux.

Took the truck to a local installer (where I bought the original Toy-AUx adapter) and they agreed to swap for Toy03-Aux unit and see what happens. Walla!! It must be magic but now it works great...Pressed CD button once and it changes over to XM radio right away..this with lights off AND on! But he did mention that he need to use the adapter cable that came with the original Toy-Aux unit--so maybe the TOy03-Aux cable won't fit...

But now I am very happy and XM sounds great through the direct connection too. Hope this may help someone else.
Jon

TOY-AUX issue while switching modes

I too am having this same issue where w/toy-aux it'll play in FM1 or 2, CD, AM(basically all the modes) but if i am using the CD mode to listen to my Sirius and switch over to AM, I can't get back CD mode w/o unplugging the radio or battery. I exchanged the TOY-AUX unit for a TOY03-AUX unit but my results are still the same. any ideas?
