my amps keep cutting out
CRAP
Well today i jumped in my truck afterschool and as usual i turn up the tunes...after about 10min my music starts cutting in and out.. I figure it was my head unit, but my ipod would keep moving a long in time. I soon realized both of my amps were turning on and off. They are on seperate power lines to the battery and have their own grounds. so I know its not a power or grounding problem. This also lets me know that its not an overheating problem as my two sperate amps are turning on and off.my REM wire is run to the back of my truck and i spliced the wire and just did the wire twist with two wires one going to each amp. This system has worked fine for about 8 months. Today is when this problem started hapening.
As of now the amps won't turn on at all. I tried turning on and off the headunit and removing the faceplate but it is still no go.
Is my REM wire most likely just not sending out a signal..is My head unit bad?
What are some posibliities?
ALSO Here is my setup as far as my amps go
Headunit is an Alpine 9805
Kenwood KAC-8452 amp giving out 60x4watts RMS
Rockford Fosgate bd1001 giving out 1000watts RMS (two 12" alpine type-r's take the power)
My guess is that the headunit is starting to crap out on me. That makes me kind of mad as Alpines usually last a lot longer than this. Oh well... i really want a 9857 and its fancy new ipod interface anyways

the reason i dont think its overheating is that the amps both kicked on and off at the same time.
One amp is about 9 months old the other is about a year and a half. What are the odds that two amps would go out at the same time? My speaker amp was a little warm as it always does because its pushing out as much as it can. the sub amp was cool to the touch.
the amps really aren't turning on. The lights dont turn on..there is not even any white noise through the speakers

Could be your remote wire shorting out. I would check all the wireing. Make sure you have good grounds (large wire and scrape off the paint whareever they are bolted). Definetly have a look at that remote wire though. Might have lost a wire nut under the dash or something.

Well i did some research.. I checked the voltage at the end of the wire where my amps are and got nothing...also tried it right out of the head units wiring harness..no good eaither.
I got a new 9857 and it works perfectly...yahoo its nice to have a radio again after a week and a half...
thanks to everyone for their help

same thing happened to me. Turned out that it was the fuse in the actual amplifier. Might be a small wafer fuse, like mine. But...this might not be the case for you because the people that installed mine installed a wiring kit that was far more advanced than i actually needed. Usually the fuse that comes with the wiring kit and between the battery and the amp would blow first. O well
