The sub is a 12" and the amp is a 500watt x1 channel.

That should be good. I have a 10 now.. got a second on the way. Just 1 10w3v2 should be good for an average listener (if thats what you are).

Either way. $250 is still underpaying for the amp. The sub may be worth another $100 (how new is it?).

That is an excellent deal.

I cant wait to see what it sounds like in my 4runner! The amp is like brand new! I think it was woeth every bit of $250 for the amp sub and box! Kick ass buy! How do your JLs sound in your 4runners? Im askin everybody? Does it sound good , does the bass flow through good?

no point in having all that bass when you can hear anything else except the rumble. Invest in some nice components and you will be better off. Or you can be like the thugs in the city and just blare your bass....your call

Not quite. Go get yourself a DMM and a Clamp meter and a test tone loaded cd and a vid camera and go surprise yourself. Even following the law of P=IV, you are still overestimating power going through the coils of the sub since its an inductive load...

Now I dont know what that amp's ratings are, but there are going to be frequencies in which it wont get 100 watts of the 500 because of the reactive nature of an acoustic transducer.

For instance:

1 of my 4 Incriminator Audio 20.1's is rated to do 1.8kW rms into a 1ohm resistive load. (Actually into a resistive load it will do 2200+ watts, as it's a SEVERELY underrated amp ) But keep in mind that subs are reactive not resistive.

As such I had each of my 4 20.1s seeing 0.35 ohms dcr. At a 47hz sine wave, with the amps running full bore, the VAC going to each coil was ~45 volts AC and about 36 amps. This equates to about 1600w produced from each amp. Following V=IR we know that the reactive resistane is equal to the voltage divided by the current. Thus in my example the reactive impeadance at 47hz was 1.25ohms! Over 3.5 times higher than the DCR!

An interesting note is that hte reactive impeadance that the amps see is directly related to frequency being played and the box construction.

In my example the impeadance would actually spike to over 6ohms at some frequencies from the meager 0.35dcr impeadance.

Thus your JL amp, or any amp will be INcapable of producing the same power at all frequencies. You cant defy laws of physics.

Will impeadance mathcing amps prove to make more power than an equally rated output amp that doesnt have impeadance matching? You bet! Does it make it capable of out powering amps larger than it? Dont count on it.
