guys, i have the stock head unit out of my 2003 4runner and have a question about pricing ... i was about to put it up on ebay and in researching it, all the OEM toyota parts providers say that it has a list price of $620 ...

how is that possible? it's a single disc fujitsu unit, part # 86120-35220 ...

obviously no one would actually pay that much for it, so then what kind of price would be fair for me to ask? i really just want to get rid of it, so i don't care about getting top-dollar for it.

any help would be appreciated ...

 

Traditionally eBay is an AUCTION format. ( yeah its been bastardized since then, just look at all the crap that never gets one single bid on it because the prices ppl are starting at are way too high, and they just go into relist-rotation )

start the bid at 1$ and let "Supply and Demand" provide you with market value and a sale.

starting your bid low will also generate more ppl watching and bidding with interest on on your item. The better your description and the better your pictures the better your auction will do.

 

haha, Robb, i know that ebay is an auction format ... i listed my item, no reserve but i started it at $100 because for an item that OEM dealers sell for $620, i figure $100 is rather fair! anyway. maybe someone will want it, who knows.

 

UHOM, My message is more than the surface words, and is in fact, a semi-rant on my part about what eBay has become, from its earlier beginnings when it was a real community and there werent a bunch of whiny prissy pants (IE cant sell guns anymore) , rampant frauds, and non-paying bidders, and unscrupulous people (buyers and sellers) that negotiate on the side to get the auction ended early, screwing over all the other bidders.

My point in saying AUCTION was that it seems that many sellers have forgotten that concept, apparently. Too much junque on there that has starting prices at retail or above that cloud up the REAL, HONEST auctions.

whether you start it at 1$ or 100$, assuming that the market value is 100$ or above you should get the same $ which is determined by the items market value which is determined by supply and demand.

THAT IS, untill you calculate in the psychological phenomenon of peoples overwhelming desire to be the "winning bidder" and "playing to win", where the bidding thrill is somewhat addicting and adds an element you just dont get by going to walmart and paying whats on the price tag. Anyway starting your auctions at a low $ value stimulates that bid competition among players, whom many would pass your ad if its close or past their comfort/interest zone. Bid competition drives up prices and puts money in your pocket.

With it being priced so high, you might get a few bids in the final hour. Another good thing about starting the auction at a low price is that you pay a lot less in ebay listing fees.

well, seriously ... if someone bought it new they'd pay $600 .... $80 is pretty cheap i thought. i saw someone else selling another one (from a Tacoma though) for $149.

i'm trying to get rid of this head unit, but i'm not trying to end up paying someone to take it from me.

 

there, $60. i can't afford to drop it anymore.
