Ghetto Azz Install Thread!! 56k beware!!

There are a few people here, myself included, that work in the stereo field and of course we see quite a few ghetto rigged up stuff...

So ill start with a late model eclipse that I put deck, 4, rewire, and sound-deadened... Upon opening the hatch and removing some of the stuff, this is what I find - nothing tooo tacky or bad...

Ok lets find that power wire and look at its distrobution block - yes folks this was the distrobution block he decided to use to supply his "800 watt" audiobahn amp:

But it gets better!! Check out THIS custom work for the ground!!

And of course the usual failed attempts at rewiring, the running of power wire THROUGH a door jam, and other lazy/stupid attempts at installs...

Who else has some pics?

3G Eclipese are a PITA to build sub enclosures for becuase of that bar across the trunk floor. I had to build/modify 3 boxes (5 sheets of MDF!) before I got one that worked. That was such a pain. Plus running hte speaker wire through the door jamb was a b too.

He showed everyone in the shop, then rewired/retuned it.

Ummm, YES! LOL

We all dug through our tool boxes, found some cheapo distro blocks and wired it up correctly, then when he and his dad showed up, explained to him what we did and why we did it....

To our complete amusement, when I said that that speaker wire across the ground could very well melt, he said that it had once already!!! But what can ya do?...lol

I'm embarassed to admit it, but I've done a couple stupid things with my DIY installs. First was in high school, wanted to mount a cheap amp/eq in the trunk to drive a couple 15s. Ran the wires under the car (d'oh!). worked great for about a year, then the corrosion from driving in colorado snow finally killed them.

The expensive one though, was in my mazda 323. Installed an indash cd player, it always worked great. However, there was a connection that ran to the fuel pump behind it, and I must have partially disconnected it, cause a year later the fuel pump starts cutting in and out. Had it in the shop 3 or 4 times & they replaced all sorts of expensive stuff, 300 - 600 a trip. 3rd or 4th time they found the real problem. That stupid Clarion probably cost me $1200 in unneeded repairs to my car.

Man, I guess living in Houston I don't see very many tree trunks. I was wondering how they got the wood to wrap around like that until I read the thread

And that CRX is an internet legend. I assume you've seen the original thread?

Say what you will about the log (did anyone check out the "Log" song? ) & I'll agree (p.s. do you think "lumberjacking" runs in the family? , but I'm grooving on the Mad Max CRX install bit...I can see the feasibility of such a set-up.

how the hell do you cut a whole in a tree trunk like that? i cant think of any tool that would accomplish that, a drill would be murder.... hell even chipping away at the insides with a chainsaw would take forever!

It was probally already hollowed out by some critters or whatnot that made for very little clean up by the fabricator & what a piece of fabrication, could have at least used a router to get the plywood end pieces flush with the trunk...of the tree, that is.
Completely redefines the meaning of "'natural' wood grain interior", would'nt you say?!?

I guess I don't see many tree trunks here in downtown Houston. I would have never figured it out if I didn't read that thread.
