Clarion anyone???

So, I got a package from the big brown truck today. Inside that package was

Navigation unit, shallow mount 10" sub, amp, 2 sets of speakers and a wiring kit. Should keep me busy this weekend.

I know it's not for the trail but all that stuff is coming too. This is just the stuff I got first. I am preparing it for a road trip that is coming in March from Arizona to Tennessee. I will be doing a lot of road tripping in this so that is what all the electronics are geared toward. Everything will be going in my 92 4Runner this weekend.

I will definitely post pics of the install and the custom box I am building for the sub so I can keep it hidden and maximize my space in the back.

Clarion is some great stuff and at a super reasonable price if you shop around. Everything I got was part of their 2009 line so I got everything pretty cheap.

I used to rock clarion, I usually go with Kenwood excelon head unit's and infinity mids and highs. I just put a excelon deck in mine last weekend and threw in two 12's as well. I haven't put any mids or highs in yet as I'm taking the stuff out of my car and putting it in the Runner.

Can't wait to see your install, and congrats, looks like some good man

hey man looks like santa brought yur whole list! I got some Q's for ya:
1. Where are you puttin the rear speakers - in the doors or behind the rear seat?

2. Where are you puttin that sub? Have you seen the Q-Logic sub box for yur model? It goes behind the right rear wheel well. I want to fabricate my own in that space, but still be able to replace the hatch access panel so it's completely invisible.

3. Where will you put the amp? I want to mount mine 'invisible' and I can't think of a good place it won't be seen.

good luck with yur install!

The rear speakers will go in the stock location behind the back seat in the panels on the side.

I am putting the sub in the little cubby hole in the rear as well. The space that would normally house the plastic compartment will now be the home for my sub box. I thought about a Q Logic but they are too expensive.

I am unsure of the amp location. More than likely under one of the front seats.

Will definitely post pics of the install.

that PG amp should be in a museum.. shes an old sheila...

get a dual head unit.. i got my 7 inch flush-touchscreen for around 200$ but i know a shop owner... you can go mega cheap without f-in up the sound quality.. since the equalizer/x-over needs are being separately managed in 7-band greatness

Update...

Started the install of everything today. So far I got the front speakers completely in. Temporarily mounted the amp to see how it was going to fit. I decided to mount it on the back of the back seat, as it would not fit very well under the front seat. I've also decided to purchase an additional 4 channel amp to power the 4 new speakers because I decided to run new wires for the 2 rear speakers because they are powered by an amp already and it had to be bypassed. I also started building a box for my sub. In order to maximize available space to keep the sub hidden, I eliminated one of the plastic boxes that housed the left rear speaker and built my own. Here are some pics from today and yesterday.

Here is the housing I eliminated

Blank MDF

Cut out a few pieces for the small box

Glued and clamped

Hole drilled to run wire through

Speaker mounted in the box

Now in the truck. Note: I used the stock mounting locations with the brackets but I cut them to fit my application

Beginnings of the sub enclosure. I had to trim some of the metal to get the box to fit

First bit of the enclosure

Glued and clamping the sides

Mocked up to check for fitment

Got the hole cut out for the sub

Now with the face of the enclosure mocked to check for fitment

The sub in the enclosure for the most part

Temp installed the sub to check for clearances before I put the terminals in the box

New front speakers

Driver side installed

Passenger side installed

Temp mount of the amp

More pictures to come as I progress. I hope to have this project completed and wrapped up by this weekend with the exception of the new amp I placed on order and the fatmat I have to install.

Nice. I wish I was a better wood worker, so I could build up some boxes like that. I would definitely get some Dynamat, or something like that to put on that quarter panel.
