BUMPIN for $200...

Hey guys so here's the story for you smart audio ppl..
I have a 1986 4Runner with a JVC KD-G230 headunit. I made the mistake of telling my parents i wanted subs and although i love them they went out and bought me Pep Boys subs with amp package... They're ok but certainly not great. So I was wondering what good amp and sub combo should I get to not only hit hard but also sound good. I listen to everything from Rock to Hip-Hop to Mariachi! lol but yea i'd like to be able to turn it up and annoy people with the punch it has(ill get a bandpass box). Of course that won't be the only reason but if someone is annoying people i'd like to be able to get right back at them. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Oh and I don't mind buying used from ebay. Thanks again.

if it was under 30 days you could return them and use the oeny towards what you would want./..

personally in all my cars i have had subs. from cheap 10s to expensive 12s and 15s with a usa amp...

Personally i would go with 1 12inch sub or 2 if you can afford it with a nice amp to push.... get one about 800watts.. i like kickers,jl anything that is decent and get a good amp to push it and maybe even a little more.... say a 430watt rms mono sub amp for a 400 watt rms sub...

a system is a work in progress... you going to want other speakers in your dash and they should be amped to keep up with your loud annoying bass..

i have 2 12 inch kicker cvrs and a kicker kx400.1 ampo and a kicker 600.1... i can strap both the amps together but i havent tried yet.....

also mtx has some nice stuff... jl, pioneer, alpine, kenwood,sony... not all these guys have the best everything... look up review online of any peice your going to buy........i would look on craigslist near you and go check it out and hear it if possible... i would be leary of buying anything you cant hear first... if you were closer I would be more than happy to show you some stuff about car audio and we get stuff in at my work all the time....liquidation/salvage/recover from retail stores...

anymore questions?

DAM DUDE I HAVE THOSE EXACT ONES... but in a kicker box that has a big port on it..they are hella loud... my kicker kx400.1 pouneded them good but when i went up to a kicker kx600.1 i was really happy... it is 600 watts rms..

i would recommend a monoblock amp...those subs run at 800 watts or 400 rms each so 800 rms for the 2... so around 600-800rms i would shoot for...sony,kicker,mtx all have amps that will sound good...

p.s you got a really good eal because those subs are like last years model....they sound amazing and youll be happy with them..

i used to have a rockford fosgate p1, for a 150w sub it hit pretty good. wanting more bass i would think about maby the p2 or p3. for an amp to power those subs i would look for a mono amp and with somewhere around 600-800watts rms @2 ohms

So 2 subs is over doing it? I was looking at one Square Kicker but are they better sounding or just look different?

ps.

these two then i need 2 amps? around 500 RMS? what about a 800-1200 watt amp and running both of them? Amps are real expensive compared to subs..

if youre shopping online at a site such as Crutchfield or whatnot, be sure to look up online coupon sites. When I ordered all my equip., the coupons i found online saved me about $60. just thought id let you know.

And if your looking for cheap subs that sound good, check out the 212 mtx thunder package on crutchfield. Ive had plenty of subs, and they are AWESOME for the price. loud and clear, and better than the 2x10 kickers my friend has. I think theyre $150 on CF but find the coupons, and save some dough...

That Thunder Package reminds me of my Visonik package. It looks like a good deal but i'd probably get the same bump from my Visoniks. And i want a bandpass box anyway..
but the reviews on this one are great..anyone have any experience?

Yea i was lookin into them and i might go that route. So the kicker is lookin pretty good. Would the kicker need the same rms power as the same(wattage) round one or do i need to power more to it since like you said more surface area?

Find yourself a 12 inch Fosgate, JLw3-w4-w6 or an kicker L7... The MTX RT 202 amp will pound any of those in a fourth order BP all for under 300.. you can get the amp for 100 to 120 bucks new and the subs from 90 to 200 bones.. I use to have one Fosgate punch power with the MTX rt202 and it pounded, I had it wired down to 2 ohms (DVC) in a fourth order, youd never guess it was just one 12 with small amp.. If you want to go big go with RE XXX and an orion HCCA amp.. Im running a 12 Inch RE XXX and my old school Orion 2100HCCA in a BP tuned to 33HZ... It hits 148db.... But thats also an 800 dollar sub and a 1300.00 amp that i bought in high school back in 97... Things that make ya go boom....

Also the JBL1000.1 amp is on the cheaper side and very moderatly rated belive it or not.. Its an very popular amp with the big time car audio guys that dont have a ton of cash to throw around....

Thanks 4 the input. I wish i had 2 grand to spend on a system but i'd rather buy a new car with the money lol! But yea u talkin bout just running 1 12 and amp? Or 2 12's? I should probably get a bandpass box for bigger sound too huh?

1 12' in a 4rth order is nothing to sneeze at... Just wire a single 4ohm dvc to 2 ohm (parallel) and it will pound.. The little MTX RT202 is a great little sub amp for one driver at 2 ohms... I currently have that hooked to a 10 Adire in my wifes dodge QC in a sealed box and it has nice crisp bass... Like i said, just get an OK 12 inch sub, throw it in a 4rth order, and you'll be happy.. The thing about bandpasses is they make crap subs sound decent, they just have a very narrow freq range but they are extremely effcient in that range so not alot of power is needed for big boom boom... Like i said, score yourself a little MTX202 and a single 12.. kaboom... mirror rattling bass, not "knock yo dick in the dirt bass" but definatly boom... HTH
and this can be done for under 300 depending on the sub you buy.. if you get a kicker comp (100) and the MTX amp (120max) youre into it for 220 and have good boom... the better the sub the better the sound, but again BP dont care what you put in them.. Ive heard 2 Jensens in a BP with a BOSS amp sound good before, its all in how you build the box and what you tune it to... The box will make the setup..

Mike
