building a decent stereo on the cheap

I have a few questions I got s sony explode deck for cheap $50 it is a pretty nice unit it has front, rear and sub out as well as a input and is a CD/MD controller and has a remote as well. It has a amplifer puts out 52 watts x 4.
I want to get some speakers so for my 2nd gen should I drill holes and run 6.5" coaxials in the doors and the do like a 10" sub with a amp. I am looking for clarity not really loud bass and I don't want to spend a crap load either on the system either. Can anyone recommend any speakers or amps for me to look for?

for the sub, a jl w3 would be nice. find a decent 250w amp for it and there is your bass. you can get kicker 6.5s on ebay and they sound pretty good for the price.

The CD player I got kinda looks like this but it has the CD/MD changer option on it:

I plan on just using the deck's amp for mids and high's and a separate amp for bass.

I looked again at the deck I have is a sony CDX-CA750X which came out in 2001 so it's nothing too special it can play cd-r's and stuff but that's it. I wish I had a eclipse deck though or something that does mp3's.

Go with 6.5" components in the front doors for sure.
Here is my system below, click the pic for more info.

All you need in a 4Runner for good sound is the two door speakers and a quality sub, and amps.

Run seperate amps if you can, or make sure the main amp has enough power to do both the main speakers and a sub, or you can blow out the sub like I did by under feeding it.

This is why I now run two amps.

I decided to do MB Quart 6.5" 2way coaxial's in the doors and 4.5" 2 ways in the front holes
I have my 4.5's coming next week then the 6.5 coaxials MB quarts hopefully after. I'll start looking around for subs and amps. I may just power the mids and high's using the deck for now.

I went a simpler route by adding an Sony Xplod 825W 5-way amp w/high and low pass x-overs and a JL Audio Stealthbox. I retained my stock speakers and tuned the x-overs to feed them apropriately. The sub fills in the rest. Aside from the hiss I get when playing CDs at high volume on the crappy stock deck, it sounds awsome! And way louder than anyone should ever listen to music. Not the cheapest route, but my primary goals were stealth and and SQ. A new deck is next.

Dont take this the wrong way but, Isnt buying "used speakers" like buying "used underwear"? Kinda risky depending on the previous owner ?

On purpose or not, a lotta folks are rough and abusive to both, and you dont want their leftovers in either case.

Something to think about.

The 4.5" 2 way MB quarts I am getting are pretty new and in good shape they weren't trashed I payed a pretty fair price for them of $36 on ebay. As for other speakers I am still shopping I think I want a matched set of speakers though like all MB Quart for Mids and High's. I think the second set of speakers I will run in the doors will l likely be 6.5 MB Quart components. The Sub it really doesn't matter I probably don't need much more than a 10" sub I could go with kicker or JL audio.
I think I am going for a 4 ch soundstream amp though for the mids and highs.

I may just use the 6.5's as a mid bass speaker in the front because the mids should be covered by using the 4.5's. I am probably going to use the amp in my deck for the front channel for the 4.5's and the rear channel for the 6.5's. The rating on the front 4.5 speakers is 70 Watts max I believe as long as the 6.5's aren't really high wattage either it should work well. I plan on getting these if I can MB QUART DSD216 REFERENCE 6.5" 2-Way COMPONENT SPEAKERS.

Well the 4" 2 way MB quart speakers are installed now they sound ok but I need more mid and low band I was cheap and took my rear boxes off the side cut the wires to the speakers and ran wires from the deck back to the rear speakers and am running them full range with them in the box for a little 15 watt speaker they seem to put out alot even a little bass not a tremendous about though.
So what do you think I should get for other speakers 6x9's or 6 1/2 mids in the front doors then a 10" sub w/ amp?
