antenna dilemna... please help!!!!

so i have a 97 4runner with a mechanical antenna. i recently recieved a free cd player and installed it, however there was no intenna plug in on the deck. i have gotten rid of the factor stereo and can not get my antenna off my 4runner. i really like the tacoma whip antennas for some reason and was curious
how to get the antenna out without having to somehow retract it electrically?
how to install a taco whip?, and if it is possible to install a regular antenna in an electical/mechanical antenna housing/etc.?
and if i did install a whip, would it work as well even though the "original antenna plug in would remain unplugged" is that "plug" just for retraction and traciton purposes???
does this thread make sense lol?
thanks
