Amps, Amps, soooo many amps today....HELP!

Yeah, there are a lot of good amps out there. But price is a BIG issue right now as i just had the timing belt done and got a lot of other stuff (will post what she looks like when i finish putting them all on). So i am very limited in $$.
I like that mounting idea, that is about what i was thinking just without the board.

Not exactly, he was at work when he replied and didn't know for sure. He said it is a little over a foot both ways but didn't know how high. I think i might be able to get it under the seat but won't know for sure till it gets here.
Heres hoping!

This is what I did:
you can put your amp on your sub box and your active X-over/bass booster (a must and only $15 part - part number CR66 - pyramid - they're all the same) Run the RCA'S from the X-over to the amp and run the speaker connections from the amp to the subs. Those connections will never come off. The you have a set of RCA's and remote turn-on lead to plug into the X-over and a Positive and Ground wire to plug into the amp. The remote turn-on line will go to both the amp and the X-over. If you don't use a X-over and use the internal one on your amp, then you only have the RCA's straight into the amp and power connections to the amp to hook up. You can have a 4" power wires bolted down on the amp and then use male/female butt connectors for the quick disconnect function.
he, he. I said male to female butt connector. That doesn't happen very often... ...even when she's drunk!!!!

LOL, Not a bad idea though. So that X-over is better than the internal one? Why would i want to use it VS the built in one? Just seems like a $15 X-over would not be as good as the one on that amp.

Ok, now that I have just about everything for my new stereo all I have left is the wiring and other little things EXCEPT the subs.
Not wanting to make a new thread here is my question. As was lightly talked about above would I be better off with a dual sub setup or a better single? And what size and brand? I have been in home audio for year but this is my first full system install of a car system.
And speaking of wiring what all will I need for my setup? I know the basic 4 guage (yes it is a little overkill but it is only an extra $10) wire for the power a ground for the amp. 6 RCA cables for the preouts on the deck to the amp. Fuse. But what else do I need that I would need to order/buy special? Thanks

Ok i would only run one sub on that amp, you dont have enough power for two. A nice 10 or 12, Image Dynamics makes nice subs (and IDQ would be nice) or a Peerless XXLS, i would go with either of those, they will give you great sq with a bit of bump to boot.
#29
And a 4 gauge would be nice incase you decide to upgrade later, personally i run 0 gauge in my truck
with a dist. block with 4 gauge to my amps. better to go too big than too small. 14 gauge wire is also sufficient for your speakers, you could run 12 to your sub if you want since it will be mounted farther away and you want the most power to go there.
and DONT use a pyramid or pyle crossover, the one inside the A/D/S amp will outperform it any day, hrm 800 dollar amp, or 10 dollar POS crossover...
Get some decent RCA's as well.
You'll need a wire from your deck to your amp to turn it on.
So pretty much you need.
20ft of 4 gauge power cable
40ft of 14 gauge speaker wire
10ft of 12 gauge speaker wire
3 RCA's (length depends on where u mount the amp)
Inline fuse holder for amp.
personally i would just buy a 4 gauge amp installation kit of decent quality, then buy 2 more rca's and some more speaker wire, as it already comes with connectors and a fuse.
What kind of deck do you have?

I just got in my new Alpine CDE-9881 deck yesterday, I have always liked alpine and for the $125 i paid for it i am happy!
And like you said i did get a 4 guage install kit. so that takes care of that part lewaving me with the speaker wire and some RCA's i already have ordered (got some good monsters).
Yeah, i was thinking that the internal A/S/D crossover would be better even though it is an older amp. So it really was an $800 amp? I had heard about them a long time ago but didn't know they were that high end. And i thought that was just his trying to get a better price for it. either way i was happy with $100 for it! As i said i am a noob at car audio, now home audio i have a lot more time in...
As for the sub, i actually was looking at some Image Dynamic subs but didn't know how they were compared to the JL i was looking at (used of course, can't afford new...) But then a friend of mine said he might be able to hook me up with a freebe so i will wait to see what he has...
Oh yeah, this just hit me. Won't i need some kind of mounting braeket for the deck? since i am going from the duble din to a single. I am guessing those are standard parts i can pick up at the local audio store? any other adapters like that i will need?
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!

A/D/S is a very high end amp manufacturer, your 25w rms per channel amp will outperform most new 50w rms per channel amps made today.
JL is junk IMHO if you're going for sq (which your amp is made for, not making the earth shake). The w7's are nice, but for almost 1 grand, you need to feed them alot of power and they are not worht it for the price. JL is not worth it for the price, they would be worth it if they were around the price of mtx or kicker.
ID will have better sound quality and just sound "better" all around. Probably wont be as loud, but will sound much better IMHO....

Those are great subs but i dont know if you have enough power for them.

I actually have that ID 12" in my watch list! I think i have decided to go with a 12" since i will be going single.
Now that last one is interresting, espically for the price. I will keep that bookmarked, i could always get a second AMP. .. ;-)
Well i am glad i made a good choice on the AMP, i knew it was a good brand from a few friends but didn't know how it was really rated compared to other high end amps. All i knew is that a 1 day auction on that was too good to pass up and $100 was way to good a price to pass up as well.
The biggest thing right now is if i can get that freebe, i really don't have much extra $$ right now so if i can get an ok freebe i will save up for a better one. I might end up going with that Diyma and a second amp. And you are right, i am going for SQ over SPL.

Oh i hear you, i should update my cardomain, the system is completely different than the one in the pics (except rear speaks/deck, for now, heh)
I'm also trying to go more sq than spl (i'm actually going for SQL, sound quality loud type system)....
Oh, and i just saw a power plate 6.25 on the diyma forums for 200, so looks like u got a sweet deal.

Ok, my friend came through with a 12" for me. Not too bad, it is a MA 12" 400 watt RMS. I i just going to use this one for now so now the issue is building a box.
What i really want is a box kinda like this : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...5442&rd=1&rd=1
But the manual for the sub states that the CuFt should be .75 - 1 for this sub (sounds kinda small but that is what it says). Does anyone know where i could get some plans for a box like that? I want it to fit up under the seat and take up as little space as possible. I don't have a table saw so i have to get it pre-cut and that means it is a PAIN if i have the messurments wrong. I have searched for some desiges on google but nothing except ugly squares. Thanks for anything.

If you want to make the easiest possible box get:
2x 12"X12"
2x 13.5"x13.5"
2x 13.5"x12"
That will make you a perfectly square box with 1 cu ft of air space minus the space the sub takes up (usually .1-.15cu ft)
Therefore making a .85-.9 cu ft box.
If you want it to fit in that angle, you have to find the angle, and it's gonna take way more work. It's not going to do much for you except give u a tiny bit more airspace and way more work (think about it everythings gonna be on an angle).
If you just do a nice square box, you'll have it done in no time and it'll sound the same.
Oh yeah, use 3/4" MDF.
And MA, i cant say any good words about them , but they are better than pyle, legacy, w/e, just think about upgrading when you have the cashflow.
And on the box, sometimes it's cheaper just to buy a decent used one or ebay, instead of building your own. (esp since u need the simplest box ever, a 1cu ft sealed box)

Yeah, not the best sub ever but it will do until i can save up enough for a good one. And for FREE i am not complaining LOL. But i have thought about selling this one and using the $$ to go for a good one. I noticed this : http://cgi.ebay.com/Diyma-Sound-Qual...QQcmdZViewItem (yes i spend a lot of time on ebay...) you know i might just get that and use my old 300 watt something or other brand amp to power it. Then i would just need a good amp later on. So that sub really is good? It looks kinda like a one man show type thing after looking at the site.
I had looked on ebay and with the shipping it is still about $30 - 50 for a box. When i can get a sheet of 3/4 MDF for $15 it just doesn't make much sense

If it's good enough to go in this 4runner
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ead.php?t=8413
It's good enough for ours
The only reason im not picking one up is he only ships UPS which kills me at the border (it would be way over 200 by the time it got here)
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...t=8413&page=12
DIYMA is all about high end SQ related car stereo.. they wouldnt put out something that is crap.

HOLY HECK! That guys 4runner is increditable!!!!!!!! I would not have belived it had i not seen that thread! He put a LOT of work into that.
But i have to say that if i can get that DIYMA sub for a good price off ebay i will get it and sell the MA.
Thanks so much for all the help, as i have said i am a noob to car audio and need all the help i can get.
Oh, i was looking at a local audio shop today and was going to pick up an install kit for my truck but the guy there said i don't need one. It will just mount in there as is. I told him it was a double din but he said it will mount. Is that right? FYI: I plan on mounting 3 gauges below the deck.

You can ISO mount it, and then you need to make a spacer plate where you are going to mount the gauges, so yeah, you probably dont need a dash kit, it's just going to be a bit harder to install (but it will look way better).
I was a noob too a few years ago when i bought my stuff, thankfully i lucked out and ended up buying some decent parts, but it's always good to get someone started on good equipment and not over priced best buy crap.

Yeah, i don't ever go to best buy to this stuff. When i was pricing things, they had the speakers i got for over $200, i got them for $75 off ebay! Good speakers theres were just over priced. I do like that i can listen to the speakers there though.
So far i am happy with what i got. I won't really know until i get it hooked up though. I guess i will see then just how good my setup is...
