5 year old alpine on the fritz?
ok guys, maybe you can help me out.
so im waiting for my friend out on the trails i go to the back of my 4runner and see that only one of my subs is working (common occurance, sometimes the wire just comes off the amp) so no big deal. then i walk a few feet away and come back and all of a sudden the recetion is really bad. i look and the antenna is down? wha?!?!?! turn the stereo off and back on and the motor doesn't seem to even be trying to go up or down. so i figure ok i guess the antenna motor went out.
upon driving home, i turn the radio on and low and behold, no subs at all! then my friend goes "are you back speackers even working?" NOPE! no back speakers, no subs, and no antenna! anybody heard of this before?
it kinda sucks too cause im on a verge of buying a new computer and if i get a new deck i'll be getting one that plays mp3's and those run about $200 do you guys think that maybe some of the soldering just loose from being on the bumpy trails? something i would be able to crack the thing open and take a look at?
thanks for any help/input!

It's check the connections behind the deck, especially if butt-connectors were used. If you have the time, patience, and care, cut out all the connectors and solder everything.

Oooohhhh like this:
hey I've used a couple of those before (not in vehicle applications), but I crimp the ends after I twist the wire and insert them in. In my 4runner, the butt-connectors held up quite nice to tell you the truth on my aftermarket stereo, and has never gotten disconnected when I went off-roading in it (installed by Circuit city). When Good Guys installed an Alpine deck into my Honda, they used those same types and I've taken apart the dash so many freakin times and never came apart.
How about a shrink type butt connector like these? That should hold, shouldn't it?
