Question 2002 4Runner - Tilting new headunit up

I have not been able to find this answer, though I'm sure someone will say, "Sure, that's easy, do this.....". At least, that's what I'm hoping.

I have a 2002 4Runner that I replaced the head unit in a long time ago. The replacement had the ability to tilt upwards so that you actually had a decent view of the screen because it is set so low on the dash.

That unit died and my son replaced it, which I thought was fantastic that he did it on his own, however this one doesn't have any tilt mechanism at all, so looking at the screen is really off.

Has anyone found a good way to tilt up the screen without it looking too janky? I'm guessing I could get some longer screws and leave the bottom longer with some spacers and the top shorter and then tilt it that way. Not ideal at all though.

Would love some suggestions.

Thanks

Well, if it is a new unit that has a double din screen but a single din chassis I would imagine it’s possible, if it’s a double din chassis it may work but I’m not sure what is below the unit, to tilt it up the back would have to drop, if there is room to drop the back without looking at it and knowing where the screen needs to be for your viewing it’s hard to say how that’s gonna look, janky no matter what…..BUT I have OCD so it would be a no go for me

As far as the bracket goes you can modify another hole to compensate for the tilt but idk man I may almost just invest in a new unit and sell the other one. Normally any unit that tilts up is on the higher end spectrum.

I think this will all depend on your preference, if you don’t want janky I think you’re doomed, if a little janky is ok I would just test the waters, unbolt and do some temporary wedges in and see how it looks

I think this will all be up to you, I currently have a KENWOOD that wasn’t cheap that tilts up BUT it fits different than my older pioneer, the bracket holes go where they are suppose to go but it sticks out about 1/4 inch further so it’s not sunk in the dash where the pioneer was, it drives my NUTS!!! One day I’ll tackle it but I’m kinda getting more used to it and it wouldn’t bug a normal person, they probably wouldn’t notice it. Soooo all depends on how particular you are

Good luck
