I follow the rules. I do not name call or flame IMO.
But to ban the threads makes YT seem ridiculous.
You would lose me as a regular which I suppose would make more than a few people happy. And you know I would be vocal in my disagreement around the web.
But a completely sensored, rule laden BB is not my idea of an appealing forum.
Enforce the current rules and encourage those who flip out to abstain from reading/participating. That would be the "fair" thing to do.

I could give a damn if you are vocal around the web about our decision to pull the threads.
Yes, this forum is censored, read the rules.
It is a work/family/flame free forum, at least we try to keep it that way, so certain thought/ideas here do get censored.
Do not like, feel free to start up your own forum or join one that allows this type of stuff.

Post a poll. Ask people to identify their political affiliation and whether political speech should be banned. Put it to a vote. NO (or virtually none) CONSERVATIVE/REPUBLICAN WILL VOTE TO BAN.

Sorry but you do name call. When you call someone you do not know un-American or "you hate America", that is name calling and flaming which are against the rules here. And I am not the only one you have done this too. So if you do leave, I won't shead a tear.

Sorry you feel that way, but that is why we banned the political threads in the past.

I won't leave unless I am banned. But I have no interest in coming to a site that has Nazi thought police censoring the posts.
That is UnAmerican.

I think the Poll is a good idea.
Saying it caused by liberals is extreme. From what I have seen in the political threads is that people whether they are democratic, republican or somewhere inbetween get a bit passionate.
Personally I am for keeping them as long as they are kept in the off topic section, a set of well established rule are set up and people abide by them. And hopefully the mods can remain neutral when it comes to modifying posts.
People posting in threads need to understand that they are subject to rules like all other members of this board and checked the block that said they were grown up and understood the rules when they signed up.
If they fail to understand the rules, bummer, posts threads deleted and welcome to the real world.
People do have the option of reading a thread or not reading a thread.

All ideas, conservative or liberal get censored. hence why we dont allow political drama here.
Like I said, if you dont like it, leave. We wont worry about it.
You cant seem to grasp that this is a Family friendly Toyota related forum. Stop creating threads with mass drama in them, and worry about your toyota.
Go to CNN for all the politics you can handle. Its not about censorship here, its about there being a time and place. This is not the place.

We tried that once, in the political discussion section, and it didn't work. Nothing ever stayed civil. Ever. And it still isn't. So best way to deal with problems? Eliminate them.

You can quote a Conservative asking to ban if I am incorrect.

How do you know only liberals? Can you actually tell who on here is a liberal and who is conservative? I bet you can't.

4Mogger... would you not agree that the two threads in question that have been moved and closed were started solely to incite conflict?
Both began with an attack, which created an escalating counter attack... until things got very quickly out of control.
Would it not be possible to debate such topics without such obvious initial aggression?
To debate with respect towards opposing views, instead of a complete dismissal?

I still want to know how those threads got so nasty over the course of three days, and there was no moderator presence. Isn't that kinda the whole idea behind having mods, to prevent???

Of course, where is the line for moderation on such topics? Instant deletion, closing the thread, moving it, banning, points... never let them start to begin with, defend a viewpoint, just stay out of them completely???

No easy answer, probably no single answer either.
Personally, I feel discussion of opposing views can be a good thing. However, racism, personal attacks, slander, gossip and spreading of rumor defeats such a debate and gets us nowhere fast.
If political threads are banned out right, then the gray area of what truly is a political topic will come in to play... and many times that can be hard to define.
If only our joy of all that is Toyota and all that can be done with them could keep the peace more effectively.
