Expanded Metal.

 

It would depend on how far from center to center the cross sills on the trailer frame are placed. say 2' c-c, most likely 3/16" thickness for the expanded metal.

Get the "Flattened" type. It comes in either flattened or sharp edged.

Flattened means it has been rolled to get rid of the sharp edges,

The sharp edges are just that sharp, not good for sliding things onto or out of, and it will slice your fingers, bare feet, any unprotected flesh, like a razor.

 

Damn I wish I read this before I went. I got the rolled instead of flat because the guy said it would add alot of tread and anti skid to the bed and it would be stronger. Looks like I'll be running a grinder over it to take that sharpness off. I take it spraying to with undercoating would help too?

As for the thickness I got 1/8th because its cheap to add a few cross bars then step up to the next thickness.

 

It will work just fine, just be aware it's sharp.

Undercoating will adhere to anything, and might take away some of the sharpness.

 

Hey whats a good brand for undercoating. Duplicolor from advanced is crap...

 

I've never seen duplicolor undercoating...I used the truck bed coating and have had relative good luck on my interior.

The mar-hyde stuff, I've used before and will be doing a full job under my 4runner over the summer, in addition to a thorough cleaning.

 

Know a local chain that stocks that?

 

Buy some 3M Rubberized Undercoating, this stuff is great. It's about $10-$15 a can now, but you get what you pay for.(It's a BIG aerosol can) The undercoating will dry out nice, unlike the cheap ones that don't ever seem to dry. And it won't come off when powerwashed. You can find it where you buy body shop supplies and automotive paint.

 

Yep I used that stuff.Took about 8 cans to do my bed and I still think it needs another 2 on the links. Its hard to cover all them when 3/4 of the spray gos through the middle. Honestly I spent like $60 on all the undercoating and I think I'm just gonna wind up sandblasting it off and getting rhino or herculiner. I hate how everything scratches off so easily.
