It would have been shortly after 1:00 AM this morning, so that was probably it.

LOOKING REALLY NICE, ROB!!

However, I have a question. My question is that on the SWAP page, you have a picture there (the first one) showing the left side of the of the axle. The steering link (I don't know the correct term) seems to bearly have enough clearance above the springs. Will this cause any problem in the future whenever you do any type of flexing?

I hope the question was clear enough; couldn't find another way to word it.

Thanks!

Good question. Actually, the photo doesn't do it justice, there is close to two inches between the tie rod end and the spring. That should be plenty. Also, keep in mind that with a solid axle, the tie rod will move with the axle. So when the axle articulates, the tie rod will go up and down with it. The only time that would not be true is if the spring is actually developing negative arch in a super high compression scenario and even then, two inches should be plenty

With IFS, since the wheel moves independantly of the steering rack, there is a risk of things hitting. This system is actually easier

Thanks for taking the time to explain this (to your advantage, eh?) LOL!

I thought about the tie rod end moving along with the axle but then I thought, well the tie rod doesn't bend like the spring does so I'm sure there has to be a point where it has to hit and indeed there is but two inches should be enough, just like you said.

Yeah, the IFS is noisy, at least it is on mine or perhaps something is wrong with it. Everytime I have the 4WD drive and make a U turn, it does some cranking noise. I don't know if that's normal (it shouldn't be) or, like I said, there might be something wrong with mine.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask you this, how many miles do you have on your truck?

There's some "normal" noises with the IFS suspension, but not many. You should have it looked at if the noises are alarming, just to make sure you don't have something amiss.

I'm thinking I might be the steering system, but well that's another topic, I don't to stray away your topic here.

I edited my previous post, by the way, check, in case you haven't.

Nice job! Your getting a lot done!

It took me several months to complete my rig- but that was complete rear 56" springs and hangers, crawler box, new clutch, timing chain conversion, and doing the SAS.

Bump stops should prevent the tie rod end from making contact, and also will prevent the spring from arching *too* far negative. I allowed my setup to go about 3/4" negative at maxamum compression- negative spring arch will kill a spring quickly.

I just got back from visiting the geerage, and man... To see this work in person is really cool. The welds are simply BEAUTIFUL. All of the work looks factory stock - no lie. If you didn't know better, you'd look at the work they did on the shackle hangers and swear it came off the line that way.

Rock on guys!

I'll second that! In fact, I am sipping a sample of your gift to the shop. It was a VERY cool thing to do. Thanks Mark!

NOTE: Gene is not actually at the shop at the moment, we are an alcohol free zone when work is in progress

Just thought I would toss that out there so no one got the wrong idea
