Suspended pickup storage (?)

Not sure if this would be considered "storage" or a "rack". Anyways........
Since the bumper thread I started will be quiet till I get ample time to sit and focus on it, I thought I would share what I built on Sunday to save much needed space in the bed of the truck for any other supplies that need to be taken places. This is a quick throw together deal to help me get to the Mint 400 race next weekend where I will be on track as a volunteer and need to take firewood and whatever else I don't want inside my trailer. I'm sure things could have been done better/cleaner, but I only had the one day to thrash it together. On the bright side of it all, my 8 yr old daughter hung out and tried welding some more. Funny to see a kid buried to the hilt in leather and a hood, bent over to the point of gravitational failure, making bright light and trying figure out exactly what the heck is going on with the red puddle before her.
Enough yammering. On with the goods.

I'm not great at keeping up with pics when I'm working, but this was step one. Two pieces of angle, two pieces of 1 1/2" .095 wall tubing across the bed, and two more pieces to mount the Ruffstuff spare tire mounting plate.

After I painted the whole piece I decided to add to it of course.

Skipping ahead since the camera was forgotten for a few.

Wow that looks great. I wish I can do a DIY project like yours. How much did it cost you to set-up everything?

Around $85 I'm guessing. I've had the steel sitting here for a while.

just curious why you chose to mount it in the middle?
seems like having it mounted forward would have freed up more bed space.

That was where holes were already drilled in the bed rails. Was'nt sure yet if I wanted to do more drilling on the truck. Also had a set of Subaru brat seats bolted in at the time this was first mounted. More than likely it will move forward soon.

Just got done with some fun times volunteering at the Mint 400. Emptied the gas can into race vehicle and pulled a few trophy trucks back onto their wheels. Not tech I know, but just awesome to me.

Just being at a race like the Mint 400 is cool, actually getting to helps make it awesome.
