First I have to give credit where credit is due...

I have been staring at photos of Crolison's front bumper for many months and wanted to copy it. I ended up spinning it in a few different ways, but you can't deny the similarities. Here are some photos of it through out the build process. I am very happy with the way it turned out! Thanks again crolison for your endless supply of photos that helped my buddy and I out as we did this build.

Your back bumper is next on my agenda!

 

 

1. Why no room for a winch? I see you did add recovery points just wondering , you may find at times it could be awhile before someone comes ago to help get you out.

2. Do you plan to cut some holes to get air to the radiator or is cooling a non issue?

3. Don't get me wrong I think it is a very cool bumper but I would think that a place for a winch would have been a good idea so you can get yourself out of unforeseen stucks , the next issue and most importantly cooling the bottom of the radiator and keeping a good air flow over it , is cutting in holes into the down plate to get air to the radiator in the plan or a future mod? I think that would be kind of important in keeping that motor cool.

Just a bit of interest and friendly cretinism so PLEASE don't get offended or take it the wrong way just trying to maybe give you a helping hint so you don't ruin your motor prematurely lord knows cooling is very important with these motors.

There is plenty of room for a winch if I remove two lights, so it was taken into consideration. I don't EVER go wheeling without someone to come pull me out of trouble. I consider wheeling to be more of a social event than anything, so I don't go without a group.

I had planned and marked for 3 holes originally, I then decided that if I don't have to have them, I won't add them. So I will see if there are any over heating issues. However, I drove it home yesterday in 107 degree weather at 80 mph for about an hour and it was just fine. I have a fairly new radiator anyways, but if it starts getting warm the holes can be added with ease.

nothing wrong with a portable winch acutally 90% of the time if i thought i needed a winch it be useless mounted in the front

 

Yeah I think when I build my bumbers Im going to add receivers hitches to the front and rear, because most of the time I want back out of the situation not to go through it.

Nice work! I love seeing when people put time and effort into something and it turns out so nice. I think you are bang on with the idea of waiting to see about the overheating issue. And as far as a winch goes, if you decide you do need one I think you can probably do a good job of making it fit and still look good. I am not sure if you have one already but if not you should start to design your rear bumper soon.

 

I actually have already started on the rear bumper...but it's going to take awhile, since I am going to be out of town on and off over the next few weeks. It's going to look VERY similar to Crolisons back bumper, except I am doing a swing out tire rack on the back.

You should build a stinger to match the handlebar moustache in the picture.

 

now that is a good lookin bumper.. iv seen alot of different homebrew and even shop made bumpers on 3rd gens and havent been impressed with the fit and style.. but that looks awesome

 

LOL...I am the normal looking one That other goofy bastard is Jared...the master fabricator! I am not the Mutton Chops kind of guy.

 

I will work on some more photos. I have lots of them! I will see what I can do about picking out the key ones and getting them posted. The only thing I will warn against, is that I welded mine to the frame. MOST people will want to go with a bolt on, like Crollison. But the photos should offer some guidance.

 

Great looking bumper , What thickness material are you using , if you dont mind me asking.
