well its a little over due cuz iv had these made for a while but im bored so i thought id share. i still need to install them tho. i used to have 2 tops for my 4runner and i traded one of them for some scrap metal, well not so much scrap but . sorry for the cell phone pic. i will get a good pic this weekend after i install them on my truck.

the lead and trail edges look like they will catch. May want to consider angling them alittle more. The trails here are really tight and it would be an issue, maybe not for your location. I angled mine so they stick out a little more in the rear than in the front, helps keep the outer edge of my 12.5's from acting a a pivot around obsticles. Good job though.

 

actually i plan on mounting them at an upward angle so they wont stick out further than my tires so i think they will be alright. i did think of that, after i built them of course, that maybe they will catch but i guess ill see

i really like how it turned out. i also really like the bedliner on the bottom it should really help keep my truck clean looking.

Wishing you'd bury the sliders. The tubing just doesn't look like a big enough diameter to do any good.

 

looks cool.. but i dont think they'll save you from anything besides tall grass.

 

as far as the strength i guess ill just have to see. the tubing is actually really thick metal i guess its the tubing they use for underground gas lines. after i got them done i stood on them and kinda jumped up and down on them and they are really solid. so we'll see. there isn't anything too crazy around here anyway so they should be great

 

what size is the tubing? They look pretty square. You're probably going to get hung up on stuff pretty easily on the trail.

 

how did you mount to the frame? gotta pic? looks like you did a nice job with the rocker liner spray, and that's a unique blue. looks good!

the tubing is 1 1/4 inch OD with 3/4 inch ID.

i am kinda worried about them getting hung up on the trail. i never thought of that when i built them. they are kinda short tho so i could add rounded tubing on the end.

i welded them to the frame. i currently have them mounted with two brackets each but dont worry i plan to add two more with 4 mounting brakets per slider

I like your liner too, what did you use for that? How many coats?

 

for the liner, basically i sanded down the area with 100 grit sandpaper, wiped it down with mineral spirits then sprayed one coat pretty heavily. there were a few runs at first but they tend to level out. it took three cans of rustoleum bedliner to do the whole thing, each side and the back.

its holding up really well, and iv thrown rocks at it. if u know the bfg a/ts u know they tend to catch small rocks and iv driven down gravel roads since i do this. my friend and his dad have also done this with thier jeep cherokees, thiers r holding up too.

 

Thanks for the info, i didn't realize rustoleum was making bed liner, where did you find it?

Also curious, did you sand down to steel or just rough the paint?

I'm doing a similar job right now with duplicolor bed liner but i've been sanding down to paint in many places where the paint was being replaced with rust.

I actually run the BFG ATs in 33x12.50 with 4.25" offset rims so i'm with ya when it comes to throwing rocks, mud, sand and everything else under the sun at my paint, or where paint should be rather!

i got the rustoleum bedliner at autozone for $9 a can. i just roughed up the paint, but i had already fixed any rust i had before i painted my truck so u might wanna snd it down to metal if it gets rid of the rust, but thats up to you. it says on the cans that best application is on bare metal but i don't see why it would matter.

one tip i learned from doing this is take ur time cuz that stuff is heavy and will run like a mofo if ur not careful.
