miller 180 mig good enough for SAS?

Most 110 machines will weld 5/16 in a single pass with flux core so it really shouldn't be surprising to do a SAS with one.
However, welding is not just a machine, but knowing how to use it.
If you have access to a 220 machine with MIG then use it for your SAS. A lot cleaner than flux core and you will be assured proper penetration, or at least more leeway for error.
I have a Lincoln Pro MIG 135 and a Miller 251 and love them both and prefer them both for different things.

As I was finishing up a cage on the fj43 last night I thouhgt of this thread and decided to take a few shots of some flux core welds before I removed any slag. In these pics the flux smoke is cleaned off, but thats it. It may not be Tig but....

Another little tip, if your weld has alot of convexity, there is a lack of fusion and penetration, if your weld is concave and well fused well you have good penetration , if your base metal turns cherry red by the time your finished welding you most likely have good penetration and a discoloration on the backside of your material. As I am a welder by trade I think my knowledge could help. And I just recently retired my 110v for a 220v.

No doubt, but it aint getting any triangulation. As that truck is (about) 1 of 6 in the US, he will not be wheeling it! Its more for looks, roof rack structure, and a bikini top frame.

Wow never thought about the A/C.
The unit is on the other side of the house though. .
ANd i would have stole the plug from the dryer but we use gas, not electric so we have a 110v dryer.
Either way the 110v gets it done for me.
