Ya, I don't know what I'll do. We'll just have to see how much noise they make and such. I may end up cutting them off and going with a shackle set up instead. We'll see.

i guess i should have specified. i don't mean the colorful ones you buy at the dollar store, but rather a semi-permanent setup. attach one end under the frame, and make a nicer looking hook to go around the ring. and i don't think it'll look too bad with the black ribbon type cords, either

I might look at that down the road, but I really like the simplicity of this one. I also thought I might add some side panel protection, as well. Who knows...

+1 on the swing out carrier...that would be badass

You could make it simple and even removable (modular) if you didn't want to always use it.....

I wonder if there's something like the maglite mounting clip that you could bolt up to the bumper to hold the d-rings in place. Something along these lines

Or really, let it hang down. Drill a small hole above and below the ring where it lands. Black zip ties.

How about using strong magnets?

I had clevis rings on my last rig and used a bead of black rtv where they smacked the bumper. It worked for me.

Great hint. I'll look at that.

So, next question? What to paint it? I know powder coating would be better, but I am on a budget of $0, so....? Spray Bed liner? Rustoliem Flat black paint? Florescent Green, for an accent color? What do you all think?

x2 on the rustolium hammered. I used it on my current diving board of a bumper and couldn't be happier. It's pretty tough and, like irab said, easy to touch up. Several colors available as well.

oh, just one thing on the hitch: i don't know about your state, but here in va, if you want to tow a trailer you'll need safety chains. just a thought that you might want to add some loops behind the bumper on either side of the hitch

Updates....

I had some time today, so this is what I got done...
Pic of the D-link I went with...

What are some opinions as to how close it should be? I like being able to step on it to get in the back, but it looks a little far out. I think I may have to go and cut my mounts back a little more... I still need to add safety chain mounts, do some clean up, primer and paint it.

my suggestion, now that you mention it, is to add a plate on top that extends to the body (not touching, but just there to fill the void). i can draw it up later tonight if you want

something like this» []¯

I looked at that, but I really like the look of the tubeness of the bumper as it sits.
