hey yota fans,

first off i would like to compliment you all on a wonderful site. i am currently stationed in Iraq w/ the 389th engineer reserve unit out of ne iowa. the threads on this site are great. you all have given me ideas to ponder while waiting for my last view of iraq from 30,000ft. which brings me to my question, i was told a while back that the frame for 2nd gen 4runners and reg cab p/u were the same. does that hold true int the third gen, and if it does; what are the differences between 2wd and 4wd runner bodies, ie floor dimensions. i currently own an 85 yota pu w/ 32" bfg ats and a 70 chevy w/ 35" uniroyal mts. i know that the cab on chevy's differ between 2wd and 4wd. i have a couple of places where i can pickup 2wd runners and i have a frame from a 90 4wd truck that was rolled. im looking at putting the runner body on the pu frame. any help would be great. thanks

2wd runners are the same as 4wd runners just w/o the drivetrain. so, if you bought a 2wd runner, all you need is the tranny/t-case combo, and front drivetrain, locking hubs, etc from a 4wd in a junkyard to make it go!

 

Not sure about the answer to the frame to frame compatibility but did want to give you a *bump*

thanks for the info. so than a 2wd runner would be good candidate for a sas.but what i was thinking for plain simplicity was mounting a runner body onto a truck frame the the rear leaf springs. i do carpentry in the state and was looking for something enclosedfor tools and also to haul the wife and kids. i figured that the leaf springs would better handle the loads that may be put into it. and since i have the frame picking a runner body up shouldnt be too difficult. it seems like the runner bodies hold up to the development of the midwest rust package beter then the p/u beds.

To the best of my knowledge, you will have to possably redo 2 frame/cab mounts, no biggy at all...

thanks for the words of encouragement. i should be home for some good late spring wheeling. any way i was brousing and came across the Total Chaos lift stuff. the looks are killer. since i have all of this time to ponder what i will do while my loving wife is at work tell me what you think of swapping in t-case, diff, etc into 2wd truck and doing the chaos lift. i sold the frame for parts to be named but i have this junky 85 4wd that is just begging to have me let lose on the bed support/ratchet straps and let it lay to rest. i do need to have a cab for the wife and kids. just something for me to ponder. one other thing.., if it widens the front by 6.5" what would be a axle for the rear that would be close in width.

since using T100 shafts up front, would the rear be a good choice. sooner or later i would like to swap in a Lexus v6 or v8 out of an LS. not real torquey but hp and hellacious fuel mileage on the highway, as a car engine anyway. just let me know what you think.
