fix or replace rear axel?

I have a 94 22re pickup 4wd,
I took it to a local mechanics personal shop about a month ago needing a couple of things checked out. The biggest was i had zero dope in the rear end and wanted all seals replaced. Well i called them today and they finally admitted that they have yet to work on anything (month long and havent touched it!) But they told my the rear end needed all seals and bearings replaced. Told me they can either order all the parts and replace them or they can swap out the axel with one the one of the mechanics has on a parts truck (told me the axle is the same including gear ratios)
Long story short, my question is which option would be better/ cheaper?
Any advise would be much appreciated.
P.S. sorry for grammatical errors

Edit: IDK where this needed to be posted?

Get a quote from them. But it's cheaper to replace than it is to rebuild. Pretty much always.

Yes it was a little cheaper but i ended up not really having a choice, i had broken teeth in the gears from a loose pinion (what they told me). With a replaced chunck, new seals, new bearings, fluids, and labor the rear end ran me $650. Is this high, low, or average price for the work done? They have put the rear end back together now just waiting on news of the front end.

Sounds good to me! With labor prices for shops rounding $60-$90 around here, and going through the axle like that, I'd expect that or up to around 1k.
