Yoda, looking on the webbing. If its a dana it will say d44, d60, d70 etc. If its a 1 ton, its a good possibility. If its not a 1 ton, it's probably not. I believe that if you look at it while its mounted to the truck it will be on the drive side webbing. front or back not really sure. I hope that helps!

 

Thanks Yoda, but I already have the axles. Crash has recommended 62" wms - wms. I'd like to go as wide as is feasible. I'm intersted in the additional stability provided by a wider stance, but I don't want to go so wide that I can't get through the trail or make trails more difficulty just because I'm too wide.

 

yoda, those big 8 lugs are not d60's. the rear is a 14bFF, and the front is a HD D44. if it was CUCV, then it would have a D60 rear with a detroit in it. but with the sm465, this is an unlikely possibility.

the 14bFF is one strong mother. a great alternative to the D60 rear, and is usually cheap. i got mine for $32.50. the only problem with them is weight. all told mine came in a hair under 500 pounds.

yoda, come to think of it, you could buy this, and part it out and make a decent chunk of change.

It looks like I'm going to scrap the RAM steering for safety reasons, but here's my next problem I'm trying to prepare for.

With the current Allpro Hysteer I'm running and having moved the front axle 3" forward from stock, I was having trouble with the pitman arm hitting the tie rod when the left side compressed. I moved to they hysteer because the drag link was hitting the frame on the right side when it compressed - resulting in the sheared steering arm bolts and studs that I had problem with for quite a while.

I order to run the almost 40" tires I need to move the axle foward another couple of inches otherwise I need to be cutting into my rear fender wells - which means the front seat floors. Any one have experience/comments on this? I already moved the steering box as far forward as I can without some major work up there.

 

Run a shorter pitman arm, unless you already are???

Maybe rotate the steering box a bit to alter the plain that the rods are acting in?

Seems like tubbing the front fenders is mandatory with 40's, that is a ton of rubber.

 

I tried running a shorter pitman arm once. I lost way too much steering range. I already have the steering box moved and tilted.

I'm wondering a little about the way the D60 Hysteer fits - to see if anyone running these had similar problems. I could probably shorten the pitman arm by 1/2" without a huge problem, but anymore than than, I can't even get to my steering stops.
