I was on hs page the other day .. I think it was $1600 for the direct bolt on. It could be done without too much trouble.

The deal on the rd90 fell through, it pretty much ended being the same price as some online retailers. I'm still waiting to hear back on the wagoneer axle.

Sorry about the deal with the RD90. I think they knew what I was up to, hence the higher price on it.

Don't even give it a second thought .. this was God's way of telling me not to wait, and just go through with the SAS now.

Not with your 2001-2002 auto tranny. Call him, that's the only way to do Marlin.

Well since it looks like your gonna do this reguardless. Call Front Range Fab and talk to Brian about his custom axle houseing. See if you can ship the 4Runner out to Colorado and have him do the swap.

The axle you want without a doubt is his custom 60" houseing. Here in Phoenix there are a few Dana 44 Tacomas, and 1 that got rid of his Dana 44 and now has the Front Range Axle. The 2 parked side by side there is a huge amount of clearance difference between the two. Since I have a SA FJ-62 I can tell you from real live wheeling it, not just parking it in a ditch and taking a picture, that the fronf diff on a SA is it's huge downfall.

Reguardless you are going to have to ship your 4Runner somewhere to have it done. I would offer to do it for you with the Front Range axle but to be completely honest with you, the job does not pay enough. I can make more building bumpers in a months time.

Have you been here? It's time to get off the internet and on the phone.

http://www.frontrangeoffroadfab.com/sas_tacoma.htm

................and so on. You will want to get ALL of his stuff since it works together as a system. He has the best Tacoma/3rd Gen 4Runner swap. He can bring you in at 5" of lift and I feel a rear leaf swap to balance the lift vehicle would be best.

For old junk I would still go with All-Pro, it's tried and true.

I'd give frontrange offroad a call also. From what I've heard, they do some killer work. Let us know how much they price you to do a 3rd Gen swap. I bet it ain't cheap!!!!

I called him and here is the deal on the axle. It's just the houseing for $1100. He said the best thing to do is buy a complete 84-85 Mini front axle. Then you need some soft of Birfield, Gears, Locker, IFS Calipers, FJ-40 Rotors and you will need to decide if you will re-use the 4cly diff that came in the axle of look for a V6 or FJ-80 High Pinion or FJ-80 HP e-locker and full axle re-build kit.

You can then sell off the stock factory tube since they do get bent, you'll have people looking for them. You keep the outter knuckles to hubs from the axle.

By useing all of Front Ranges "pre-made" parts you do cut down on a huge amount of custom fabrication. Basically it's a plasma off and weld back on.

The Total Chaos is still chaper.

Its funny you say this. I've been trying to talk myself out of this for a week now. Or at least hold off, and this afternoon I just decided F__K it, I'm doing this. This fall Shahzad is going to be hitting I-80, and going west. I've always wanted to drive cross country and this fall is starting to look like the perfect time to do it. I've got a few months of freedom left, and then the shackles go on and theres no shipping the truck here, I want to watch the whole thing, if not actively participate.

I'll give the Front range guy a call tomorrow. thanks for the links Steve. So you wanna wheel before or after the SAS?

Theres a Kaplan course I need to attend for 6-7 weeks. I want to take it starting in late august, early sept. Around that time their offering it in Il, Fl, and Cali. So I would either drive out a week or two early, or come back a week or two later.

I've already e-mailed Front range. I also put in call to my new install guy in Pa. So well get some prices. I would call total chaos, but I really don't want to deal with CVs. I've broken two .. well ripped the boot one time, and filled it with mud, and then the axle had to be replaced. The second time I did break the axle, but I was doing something stupid.

Not to make it personal, but just to ask some questions for the sake of clarity and legitimate progression.

How often do you wheel?

How much time do you spend on the highway?

How much money is currently tied up in the truck?

For me, the answers would have to be atleast twice a month, not a huge amount and a super huge amount.

On the 3rd Gen rigs, you usually end up super high and just as wide rather than a managable height.

Either way, be sure to not lock the front right away so we can hear how great a solid axle is.

Isn't Dave (44Runner) still out East?? Shoot him an email...I recall him needing some $$$. Maybe you can convince him to help ya out. He told me to drive on over parts in hand and he'd do it for a decent price. Forest (my roommate) heads back east in December...he'd help out too. Guy has a massive garage with seemingly every freaking tool...no wonder he SAS'd his alone in 3 days.
