Chopped 4runner tops 1990+

Lets see some pics and hear some ideas about chopping the tops on the newer 4 door runners. I've seen plenty of bobbed and chopped 1st gens allready, I want to see how creative people are getting with the latter runners.

The 90-95s are getting so cheap now I've been itching to get one and cut the back window portion out. Those windows tend to get hit by trees on the trail anyway and it'd be a good way to shed some top heavy weight. Thinking I'd make a soft top for the back portion to keep the elements out when needed and use the original rear roll up window as the back window.

My brothers rig, he's on here somewhere, Jewls is his user name. Anyway, be ready to spend a lot of time capping the cut sections. He made a soft top that rolls up or down when desired. Used first gen roll bar and tied it into front int cage. Wish i had better pics fer ya.

Does fine in the rain, engineered it like the wrangler/samurai tops so it's a good fit in the roof.
And thanks!

Sweet! Thats almost exactly what I was thinking of doing! Any reason why you didn't use the back glass?

Hows the noise level when your drivin on the highway? Is it much noisier than when it was uncut?

Thanks!

Didnt want the glass cause I wanted it open. Had a first gen, loved it, rolled it, then wanted 4 doors so did the swap, and wanted the openess like the first gen. And I can still put the seats down and sleep back there if needed, the tire mount comes out with quick release pins, and looking to put a removable third row seat for booze cruises.

The noise isn't bad at all with the top on, but I guess worse with the top open or down. But still now bad at all.
Wouldn't change a thing.

That I do not know but I bet you could go to a place that recovers seats or anybody that can work with fabric could do it when I do mine I don't plan on doing the soft top but I'm not for sure yet

Once I get a place with a garage Im for sure doing this. South Florida isn't a good place to stay dry. I wanna make a 3rd row removable bench that I can make face either forward or backwards..depending on the day
