Advice on winch plate

So I am trying to build myself a front bumper. This is a budget build. I plan on one day having a winch on my truck. anyway i found some pretty thick steel plate laying around my yard, and I am wondering if it would be enough for a winch plate. I have two pieces of 1/4" plate. the first piece is 15" X 12.5" and the second piece is 12'' X 5". is this enough to do a basic winch plate design? will a 8-12K lbs winch fit on there properly?

Any input is appreciated and I apologize if this question has already been asked.

What kind of vehicle is this going on?
You can check out trail-gear's winch plate for the size on a toyota.

Going on a 92 toy pickup. This is my only support that I "might" have enough plate to make one myself with the demensions I had listed.

That looks like a mount for a flat bed trailer or something. The trailgear mount would be a good starting point as it bolts to the truck as is. Then you can build the sides for it.

Red face

it all comes down to the skills you have and how you attach this bumper to your truck

Measure the winch you have I would think 1" of material from the outside of the winch mounting holes would be good.

Remembering the base of the winch is much smaller then the upper parts so make sure you will have enough clearance .

Always when building custom bumpers it is better to have all the things you plan to install.

Most all of us have the luck to learn this the hard way!!!
